2nd Newtons law in angular motion

 F = ma
a t = r
1) A wheel (R = 0.25 m) is mounted on a frictionless, horizontal
axis. The moment of inertia of the wheel about the axis is (0.04
kg.m2). A light cord wrapped around the wheel supports a (0.5 kg)
object as shown in the figure. The object is released from rest.
What is the magnitude of the acceleration of the (0.5 kg) object
(in units of m/s2)?
A) 3 B) 3.4 C) 4.4 D) 3.8 E) 2.7
Solution:
Applying (  F = ma ) on the object, we obtain: mg − T = ma.......... (1)
Applying (   = I ) on the pulley, we obtain: RT = I.......... ( 2 )

But : a=R............ (3)

2) A mass (m1 = 5 kg) is connected by a light cord to a mass (m 2
= 4 kg) which slides on a smooth surface, as shown in the figure.
The pulley (R = 0.2 m) rotates about a frictionless axle. The
acceleration of m2 is (3.5 m/s2). What is the moment of inertia of
the pulley (in units of kg.m2)?
A) 0.29 B) 0.42 C) 0.21 D) 0.62 E) 0.6
