Narrative Report on Facilitating DEAR

(Drop Everything and Read)

During the "Drop Everything and Read" (DEAR) activity on January 12, 2024, Grade 1
pupils at Luz Banzon Integrated School experienced an immersive session aimed at
advancing their foundational reading skills. Under the guidance of Teacher Cherry Mae F.
Digal, the participants eagerly delved into the world of words, aided by the use of a projector.

The focus of the session centered on reading basic sight words, a crucial component in
developing early literacy. The projector facilitated an engaging learning environment by
displaying sight words in an interactive and visually stimulating manner. Students were
encouraged to explore a variety of sight words, laying the groundwork for a strong reading
foundation.

Teacher Cherry Mae F. Digal seamlessly integrated basic reading activities into the DEAR
session, leveraging the projector to enhance the learning experience. The interactive nature
of the projected materials not only captured the students' attention but also provided a
dynamic platform for participation and comprehension.

Basic reading activities were thoughtfully designed to cater to the specific needs and
competence level of the Grade 1 participants. The use of the projector added a multimedia
dimension to the session, fostering a technologically enriched learning atmosphere.

The DEAR initiative, with the incorporation of the projector, proved to be an effective
tool in instilling a love for reading among the young minds. By dedicating focused time to
literacy activities and leveraging modern educational tools, the Grade 1 Competence
participants not only strengthened their reading abilities but also developed a positive
attitude towards learning. The event stands as a testament to Luz Banzon Integrated School's
commitment to nurturing well-rounded and proficient young readers through innovative
teaching methods.
