c) Design Mix:
All fine and coarse aggregates proposed for use in the work shall be subject to approval and after specific
materials have been accepted the source of supply of such materials should not be changed without prior
approval.
Mix design data for each concrete mix authorized by listed IIT or by competent authority as per the
provisions of the Contract.
(a) Trail Mix: Based on the proposed design mix trial mixes shall be conducted to check the
concrete properties.
At least four trial mixes are to be made and minimum. Six test cubes taken for each trial mix noting
the slump for each type of mix.
(b) Approval of Design Mix: On completion of trials & 28 days concrete strength the trial mixes report
along with Mix design, Material test will be sent for approval to consultants.
Concrete of any particular design mix and grade shall be produced/ manufactured for works only on
obtaining written approval of the IIT and Engineer-in-Charge.
Where special makes or brands are called, the suggested brand fully meets the requirements and is
acceptable. Any variation in price due to the use of alternate brands shall be permissible provided it is pre-
approved.

c) QC Checks at Site:
• The samples from fresh concrete shall be taken as per IS 1199 and cubes shall be made, cured and
tested at 28 days in accordance with IS 516.
• Concreting shall not be done when the temperature falls below 4.5ºC.
• The temperature of wet concrete does not exceed 35ºC.
• Proper planning of concrete supply, pump locations, line layout, placing sequence and the entire
pumping operation.
• Concrete shall be thoroughly compacted and fully worked around embedded fixtures and into
corners of the form work. Compaction shall be done by mechanical vibrator.
• The concrete test cubes will be tested at approved laboratory.
• Concreting shall be carried out continuously up to construction joints. The position and
arrangement of construction joints shall be as per GFC drawings.
• Slump test shall be carried out for every vehicle. Slump test shall be done immediately after
sampling.
d) Acceptance Criteria:
• The fresh properties of concrete must as per trials.
• Concrete to be consumed within the time agreed by trials.
5) CONCRETE CURING:
All concrete should be cured keeping it damp continuously over a period required for complete hydration and
hardening to take place. Preferably a minimum of 10 days in winter & monsoon, during summer minimum
14 days by wrapping with Hessian cloth & continuous spraying for vertical members & ponding for slabs or
approved effective curing compounds for vertical members.
• The finished surfaces shall present a uniform and smooth appearance or as per GFC drawings & All
concrete shall be protected against damage.
• Immediately after stripping the form work all concrete shall be carefully inspected and any defective
work or small defects either removed or made good before the concrete has thoroughly hardened.
• The concrete shall be deemed to comply with the strength requirement as per Table-05:
