The Ottawa County Board of Commissioners terminated me for cause, breaching my employment

contract, and violating my First Amendment rights for exposing their corruption. The timeline
speaks for itself. Only after I identified corruption and opposed bad governance did the Board
target me by concocting a laundry list of miscellaneous, contrived allegations that only saw the
light of day after I attempted to hold them accountable.

I am upset about this turn of events, but that is secondary to the sadness that comes with not being
able to serve the people of Ottawa County any longer. I began my tenure with high hopes. But the
new commissioners did not have the knowledge or temperament to govern the County. I tried to
leverage my years of experience in government working under President Trump and Dr. Ben
Carson to bring good governance to the table but was rejected in my attempts to do so. My sincere
efforts were cut down by the commissioners’ sword of nepotism and vindictiveness.

I stand proud of what I accomplished in just one short year as County Administrator:

• Dramatically improved the transparency of the budgeting process by adding additional

public budget deliberation meetings.
• Procured long-needed budgeting software to make it easier for staff, commissioners, and
the public to view the budget.
• Laid the groundwork for a new, data-driven County Strategic Plan based on metrics.
• Added accountability and transparency to the process of reviewing and approving grants.
• Increased financial transparency by making the complete accounts payable report public.
• Restructured the Capital Improvement Planning process and restructured the Facilities
Department to better facilitate maintenance and usage of the County’s physical assets.
• Initiated a review of the Southwest Ottawa County landfill to find solutions to the
County’s $500,000 annual expenditure.
• Streamlined the Communications process and added accountability to County messaging
by creating a Communications Department with a Director.
• Staffed the County’s new Department of Veterans Affairs with a seasoned U.S. Army
veteran who has in his short tenure already improved County efforts for our veterans.
• Upgraded the Executive Assistant position to Senior Executive Aide to the Administrator,
giving future Administrators high-level policy support and enabling the Administrator to
focus more on big picture items and less on daily minutiae.

Going forward, I look forward to leveraging my background and skills for the betterment of our
Country, and to ensuring that President Trump is our next President and has a successful second
term. Our Lord Jesus Christ spoke truth to power and faced the consequences. I will always strive
to do the same.
