Baby Walrus Wally

Project Arctic
In Project Arctic I crochet different animals that live on or around the poles. They may live on
the ice, in the air or in the water. What makes those animals special, is that many of them have
a very different appearance when they're young compared to when they are grown up. And
that is very nice to crochet!

Materials
• 1 ball Durable Cosy Fine Teddy 342
• Leftover black cotton or embroidery thread for the nose
• 2 safety eyes 7 mm black
• Stuffing
• 4 mm crochet hook (US G/6)
• Yarn needle

Size
The walrus will be about 15 cm long and 10 cm wide.

The pattern is written in US terms.

sc: single crochet

hdc: half double crochet
dc: double crochet
ch: chain
sc inc: 2 single crochet in same stitch
sc2tog: single crochet two together
mr: magic ring
*: Repeat instructions between asterisks the number of times specified. (e.g. *3: repeat 3x)

At the end of a round, the total number of stitches for that round is shown between brackets.

Instructions
The whole walrus is worked with a 4mm crochet hook (US G/6) in Durable Cosy Fine Teddy.

Place the eyes in the head between R5 and R6. The stitch marker is located in the center of the head. Place the

eyes 5 stitches apart, with the stitch marker in the middle between the eyes.

After placing the eyes you can remove the stitch marker.

Stuff the walrus.

Crochet 1 more sc. Then press top and bottom of the body flat together and work both sides together with 5sc.
Fasten off and work away the yarn.

Nose
Crochet the nose in spiral rows.

R1: ch4
R2: (2sc, 3sc in next stitch)*2 (10)
R3: 10sc (10)

Fasten off and leave some thread to secure the nose to the head. Sew a nose in the center using black cotton or
embroidery floss. Next, attach the nose to the head.

Front fins
Crochet two front fins.

R1: 4sc in mr (4)

R2: (sc inc, 1sc)*2 (6)
R3: sc inc, 5sc (7)
R4: sc inc, 6sc (8)
R5: sc inc, 7sc (9)
R6: sc inc, 3sc, sc2tog, 3sc (9)

Fasten off and leave some thread to secure the fin to the body. Press the fin flat and sew to the body.

Tail fins
Make both tail fins first before attaching them.

Fasten off and leave a good length of thread. Flatten the fins.

The walrus' body has two pointy edges at the position where the tail fins should be placed. Slide the tail fins
slightly over these points and sew them on.

Project Arctic
In Project Arctic haak ik verschillende dieren die leven op of rondom de polen, zowel op het ijs,
in de lucht als in het water. Wat veel dieren uit deze serie bijzonder maakt, is dat ze als
volwassen dieren een heel andere verschijning hebben dan wanneer ze jong zijn. En dat is
natuurlijk heel leuk om te haken!

Benodigdheden
• 1 bol Durable Cosy Fine Teddy 342
• Restje zwart katoen of borduurgaren voor de neus
• 2 veiligheidsoogjes 7 mm zwart
• vulwol
• 4 mm haaknaald

Afmetingen
Het walrusje wordt ongeveer 15 cm lang en 10 cm breed.

Het hele walrusje wordt gehaakt met een 4 mm haaknaald in Durable Cosy Fine Teddy.

Plaats de ogen in de kop tussen T5 en T6. De steekmarkeerder bevindt zich in het midden van de kop. Plaats de
ogen met 5 steken tussenruimte, waarbij de steekmarkeerder zich in het midden tussen de ogen bevindt.

Na het plaatsen van de ogen kan je de steekmarkeerder verwijderen.

Vul het walrusje op.

Haak nog 1v. Druk daarna de boven- en onderkant van het lijf plat op elkaar en haak beide zijden samen met 5v.
Hecht af en werk de draad weg.

Neus
Haak de neus in spiraaltoeren.

Hecht af en laat wat draad zitten om de neus aan de kop te bevestigen. Naai met zwart katoen of borduurgaren
een neus in het midden. Bevestig het geheel aan de kop.

Voorvinnen
Haak twee voorvinnen.

T1: 4v in mr (4)
T2: (2v in vs, 1v)*2 (6)
T3: 2v in vs, 5v (7)

T6: 2v in vs, 3v, 2v smh, 3v (9)

Hecht af en laat wat draad zitten om de vin aan het lichaam te bevestigen. Druk de vin plat en naai vast aan het
lichaam.

Staartvinnen
Maak eerst beide staartvinnen voordat je ze gaat bevestigen.

Hecht af en laat een flink stuk draad zitten. Druk de vinnen plat.

Het lijf van het walrusje heeft nog een hoekig uiteinde. Schuif de staartvinnen iets over deze puntjes heen en naai
ze vast.
