Renewable Energy Technology
I Practical Significance: Wind is used to produce electricity by converting the kinetic energy of
air in motion into electricity. In modern wind turbines, wind rotates the rotor blades, which
convert kinetic energy into rotational energy. This rotational energy is transferred by a shaft
which is coupled to the generator, thereby producing electrical energy.
A Vane Anemometer is a type of wind meter that measures wind velocity and volumetric flow.
Generally, they are small handheld devices comprising a small fan and a digital screen. The fan
can either be built into the device or supplied as a separate sensor plug-in.
The aim of this course is to help the student to attain the following industry identified
competency through various teaching learning experiences:
• Maintain the mechanical components of renewable energy systems.
V Practical Outcome
Measure heat output, Maximum power, power output efficiency of solar PV panel
