ABSTRACT

The agricultural sector, a cornerstone of economic development in the Philippines, plays a

pivotal role in providing livelihoods to thousands of Filipino farmers. In the Philippines,
agriculture faces multiple challenges, particularly in Cacao farming, hindering production growth
and sustainability. Pest infestation and plant diseases pose threats to economic development,
food security, and poverty reduction.

This research addresses the substantial challenges faced by small-scale cacao farmers in the
Philippines, specifically focusing on early detection of pest (borers) and disease (pod rot).
Leveraging the integration of technologies such as a decision support system, Internet of Things
(IoT), and smart farming practices, the study aims to develop a model supported by drone
technology and decision support technology.

This research also includes conducting a thorough research assessment of literature, identifying
knowledge gaps, and formulating comprehensive research plans. The research will design a
detailed prototype model, outlining key components, parameters, and methodologies.
Subsequently, a prototype will be developed, ensuring technical feasibility and functionality.

The research aims to contribute to the sustainable development of cacao farming practices,
addressing issues of low productivity, focusing on pest infestation and disease control. By
implementing a drone-enhanced smart farming technology with a decision support system, the
study aims to enhance the efficiency and livelihoods of cacao farmers, ultimately contributing to
the economic development of the Philippines.
