1. Misinterpretation

An example between regions in Indonesia. When people from cities like Jakarta, interact with
Sundanese people, then say "Mangga dimakan". Sundanese people will conclude that Jakartans
are inviting food. In fact, the intention of the Jakarta people was to tell him to eat the mangoes he
had.

2. Ethnocentrism

An example of ethnocentrism is how in America you are supposed to look someone in the eyes
when speaking to them. However, in other non-American cultures, you are not supposed to look
someone in the eyes when speaking to them. These are two examples of cultural relativism.

3. Stereotypes

The stereotype of Chinese people is stingy. Chinese people are often known to be calculating, even
stingy. In fact, that assessment is wrong. Whether someone is stingy or not depends on
personality. In my personal opinion, Chinese people are not stingy, but they appreciate all the
efforts that have been made, whether they are made by themselves or other people. For example,
when selling, they will really appreciate their own hard work. That is why even rupiah is very
valuable for them. Most Chinese people live a frugal lifestyle, efficient and economical, they think
about the long term for the sake of their children and grandchildren.
4. Prejudice

There is prejudice that arises due to social comparison. Social comparisons such as comparing
social status, economic status, beauty and character can also trigger prejudice. For example,
someone who is richer but rarely participates in social activities may be judged as stingy and
arrogant. This prejudice can clearly lead to an even more negative situation.

Next is prejudice due to relative deprivation: the condition of a person who feels dissatisfied when
he or a certain group is compared. For example, someone who lacks self-confidence feels resentful
when compared to someone who may be more beautiful. He will then assume that many people
don't like him.
