CONCEPT

Sustainable development is the development that meets the needs of present people without
compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. It is an approach to the
economic development of a country without compromising with the quality of the environment for future
generations. In the name of economic development, the price of environmental damage is paid in the form
of land degradation, soil erosion, air and water pollution, deforestation, etc. This damage may surpass the
advantages of having more quality output of goods and services. Sustainability science is the study of
the concepts of sustainable development and environmental science. There is an emphasis on
the present generations' responsibility to regenerate, maintain and improve planetary resources
for use by future generations.
The concept of sustainable development has been, and still is, subject to criticism, including the
question of what is to be sustained in sustainable development. It has been argued that there is
no such thing as a sustainable use of a non-renewable resource, since any positive rate of
exploitation will eventually lead to the exhaustion of earth's finite stock; this perspective renders
the Industrial Revolution as a whole unsustainable.
NEED

 After the industrial revolution, our social cultural and economic values have changed.
due to changes in Lifestyle, the materialistic demands have increased therefore, there
is overuse of materialistic goods to satisfy our Lifestyle. There is over
industrialisation in several parts of the globe causing environmental problems.
 Due to overuse, the water bodies are getting polluted. There is depletion action of
groundwater resources and the water has turned saline in many places.
 The concept of 'needs', in particular, the essential needs of the world's poor,
to which overriding priority should be given
 The idea of limitations imposed by the state of technology and social
organization on the environment's ability to meet present and future needs.
