Question 1.
a) Find the mean and standard deviation of 10, 15.8, 19.2, and 8.7 [2 marks]

b) Thirty-one people completed a jigsaw in the following times (in minutes).

An outlier is defined as any observation less than 𝑄1 − 1.5(𝑄3 − 𝑄1 ) or greater
than 𝑄3 + 1.5(𝑄3 − 𝑄1 ), 𝑄1 is the lower quartile and 𝑄3 is the upper quartile.
Illustrate the data with a box and whisker plot. [2 marks]

Question 2.
A study was made of a group of 150 children to determine which of three cartoons they
watch on television. The following results were obtained:

35 watch Pokemon
54 watch Arthur
62 watch Danger Mouse
9 watch Pokemon and Arthur
14 watch Arthur and Danger Mouse
12 watch Pokemon and Danger Mouse
4 watch Pokemon, Arthur, and Danger Mouse

a) Draw a Venn diagram to represent these data. [1 mark]

b) Find the probability that a randomly selected child from the study watches none of [1 mark]
the three cartoons.

Question 3.
a) There are three groups of people, a red team of ten men and ten women, a blue
team of seven men and three women, and a yellow team of four men and six
women. The probabilities of selecting a red, blue, or yellow team are respectively
0.4, 0.4, and 0.2.

Draw a tree diagram to represent this information. [1 mark]

b) Calculate the probability of selecting a woman. [1 mark]

The probability that a machine will need correcting adjustments during a day’s
production run is 0.2. If there are six of these machines running on a particular day,
find the probability that more than two machines need correcting. [2 marks]
