Discussion:

Hello learners! Since you are all familiar with the different benefits of
hand spa treatment, maybe you are now ready to know what are the different
tools, materials/supplies and equipment needed in performing hand spa treatment.
After knowing the beneficial effects of hand spa, it is very essential for a
manicurist to be aware of the different tools, supplies and equipment to be used in
giving hand spa treatment which can be added service in manicure or a separate
treatment given at home or in the salon.
The next topic will give you an idea on how to use the folowing tool,
supplies and equipment needed in performing hand spa treatment.

HAND SPA TOOLS, SUPPLIES AND EQUIPMENT


The following tools referred to as implements are durable, permanent and are
hand-held.

1. MIXING BOWL – it is a small open-top, rounded cup-like container used for


mixing the aromatic oils and other fluids for the hand spa.
2. PUMICE STONE – it is a type of volcanic rock, which is actually frothy lava
solidified to form a porous rock to remove dry and annoying skin as well as
calluses.

The following supplies/materials are the cosmetics that are consumed and
replaced from time to time. They are also called consumables.

1. ALCOHOL – it is an organic compound used as sanitizer.


2. ANTISEPTIC SOLUTION – it is an agent that reduces or prevents the
multiplication of microorganisms.
3. BODY SCRUB – it is a mixture of natural ingredients to keep feet soft, smooth
and moisturized and to remove dead skin cells.
4. CLING WRAP – it is a thin plastic film used for sealing the paraffin during a hand
spa.
5. FIRST AID KIT – it is a collection of supplies for use in giving first aid.
6. LOTION – it is used to soften and moisturize the skin.
7. MITTENS – these are slips over plastic liners to increase heat retention when
used with paraffin.
8. PARAFFIN WAX – it is a mineral wax derived from petroleum. It is a soft wax that
melts at a temperature cool enough to safely immerse your skin. Paraffin wax is
used as a treatment in spa and salon to lock in moisture.
9. SOAP – it is used for cleansing the skin.

The following equipment are the items which are more or less durable and
permanent needed for a particular activity or purpose.

1. HAND SPA MACHINE – it is an electronic gadget used to soothe pain of arthritis,


muscle spasma and dry cracked skin of the hands.
2. PARAFFIN WAX MACHINE – it contains a heat source and tank that holds
paraffin wax. The machine melts the wax and maintains it in a liquid state.
3. PLASTIC BASIN – it is used for soaking hands and holding soapy water.
4. TROLLEY – it is a movable cart that contains supplies and materials.
