3. RATIONALE FOR THE INCLUSION OF THE COURSE/MODULE IN THE PROGRAMME:


To prepare students for the modern workplace environment and develop their personal development and thinking
skills. This course also enhances students’ problem-solving skills which will help students to face challenges
positively.

7. LEARNING OUTCOMES:
On completion of the course, students will be able to:
1. Present their ideas individually and in groups in mind map form.
2. Evaluate and justify suitable problem-solving approaches and tools to solve real-life problem situations.
3. Design or invent a product using the creative-thinking tools learnt in the course.
4. Communicate ideas effectively orally and in writing.
5. Defend their own/group’s ideas and critique their friends’ ideas in a given situation.

8. SYNOPSIS:
This module introduces students to the principles and techniques of creative thinking. These range from Tony
Buzan’s Mind-Mapping techniques to Edward De Bono’s Six Thinking Hats strategies which are used to stimulate
thinking. There will be plenty of opportunity for students to practice using creative thinking in a deliberate and
practical manner. It is hoped that this practical course in creative thinking will benefit students in their ability to
generate ideas and solve problems with an innovative mind in varying situations.

9. MODE OF DELIVERY: Lectures and presentations will be done face to face and online.

Note :
A student who obtains a grade C- (45 -49 marks) in a 100% coursework module is required to resubmit the
coursework component determined by the lecturer and ascertained at the Exam Board. Resubmission marks will be
capped at a maximum of 50 marks or a grade C.
