Title: Practices and Challenges of Teachers’ Skills and Knowledge in Innovative Teaching
and Learning in Selected Secondary Schools of Gurage Zone, Central Regional State of
Ethiopia
1. Introduction: Innovative teaching and learning practices are crucial for preparing
students for success in the 21st century. However, the effective implementation of
these practices depends on teachers' skills and knowledge. This research proposal
aims to explore the current practices and challenges faced by teachers in Gurage
Zone, Central Regional State of Ethiopia, regarding their skills and knowledge in
innovative teaching and learning in secondary schools.
2. Objectives:
Research Design: This study will utilize a qualitative research design, including
interviews and focus group discussions.
Sample Selection: The research will be conducted in a purposive sample of
secondary schools in Gurage Zone, Central Regional State of Ethiopia.
Data Collection: Data will be collected through semi-structured interviews with
teachers and focus group discussions with school administrators.
Data Analysis: Thematic analysis will be used to identify key themes and patterns
in the data collected.
5. Significance of the Study: This research is significant as it will provide valuable
insights into the current practices and challenges faced by teachers in Gurage Zone
regarding their skills and knowledge in innovative teaching and learning. The
findings of the study can inform policy decisions, professional development
programs, and teacher training initiatives aimed at improving the quality of
education in the region.
