1. If A = {x : x2 − 5x + 6 = 0}, B = {2, 4}, C = {4, 5} then find A × (B ∩ C).

2. Let Y = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5}, A = {1, 2} and B = {3, 4, 5}. Then find (Y × A) ∩ (Y × B).

3. If A = {x : 6x2 + x − 15 = 0}, B = {x : 2x2 − 5x + 3 = 0} and C = {x : 2x2 − x − 3 = 0}. Find A ∩ B ∩ C.

4. Let A = {(x, y) : y = ex and x ∈ R}, B = {(x, y) : y = e−x and x ∈ R}. Find A ∩ B.

5. If B is the set whose elements are obtained by adding 1 to each of the even numbers, then write down the set builder
notation of B.

6. If A and B are disjoint, then what would be n(A ∪ B) ?

7. Out of 20 members in a family, 11 like to take tea and 14 like coffee. Assume that each one likes at least one of the
two drinks. How many like only tea and not coffee?

8. If f (x) = 3x − 1, g(x) = x2 + 1, what is f (g(x)) ?
