II. Define the following and tell how they can unmake your letter. Use
word document to write your answer.
A. Jargons
Definition
Jargon is occupation-specific language used by people in a given
profession, the “shorthand” that people in the same profession use to communicate
with each other.
How they can destroy your letter
The use of jargon prevents efficient communication and makes it hard for
your audience to trust the information. Overuse of jargon can mean people
disconnect from your message, feel isolated and ultimately lead to
miscommunication. If everyone understands the jargon, then it can be a very
efficient way of communicating

B. Slang

Definition

Slang is vocabulary that is used between people who belong to the same social
group and who know each other well. Slang is very informal language. It can offend
people if it is used about other people or outside a group of people who know each
other well. We usually use slang in speaking rather than writing.

Slang words can mean different things in different localities. What might be
accepted in one culture, may have a totally different meaning in another. Maybe you
can understand your letter but the one who received it doesn’t. Always use the right
word, so they can understand it.

C. Clichés

Definition

A cliché is an element of an artistic work, saying, or idea that has become

overused to the point of losing its original meaning or effect, even to the point of being
weird or irritating, especially when at some earlier time it was considered meaningful or
novel

How they can destroy your letter

Because clichés are not specific, they do not offer strong enough commentary
to prove your point. Make sure that every sentence of your paper is working toward a
goal by eliminating meaningless phrases.

D. Redundant words

Definition

This kind of words that don't add any meaningful content to a sentence. They
can be words that repeat the same idea, state the obvious, contradict each other, or
are implied by the context.

How they can destroy your letter

They make your work difficult to process. If a person can't read a sentence out loud
without struggling for breath, redundant words might be the problem. Some
redundancies make you appear pompous.
Redundancy is the unnecessary repetition of words, phrases, or ideas in your
writing. It can make your sentences longer, weaker, and less clear than they need to be.
Redundancy can also confuse or bore your readers, who might lose interest in your
message or argument.
