◆ DO NOT REMOVE the unit's shunt bar or grounding terminal. Doing so could
subject personnel to hazardus voltage that can shock, burn or cause death.
Before removing the unit's shunt bar or grounding terminal for mainternance or repairs
(conducted only. By authorized repair personnel), make sure that power to the unit's
main circuit has been switched OFF, and use a grounding wire or condenser.
After completing such maintenance and/or repair work, securely reinstall the unit's
shunt bar and grounding terminal before restoring power to the unit's main circuit.

◆ To prevent electric shock that could burn or otherwise injure personnel, DO NOT
ALLOW personnel to touch low- or high-voltage circuits while the GIS equipment is
being operated.

◆ Never use manual operating handle when power line(main circuit) is alive.

◆ DO NOT ENTER the GIS's room until you have confirmed that its interior inviron-
ment has ventilated, and contains at least 18% density of oxygen.
Personnel entering before confirming oxygen and ventilation levels could be overcome
by fumes that cause choking and suffocation.

◆ To prevent injuries resulting from falls, DO NOT ALLOW personnel to climb, sit on,
lean aginst, or otherwise mount the GIS equipment except when conducting official
equipment inspections by authorized personnel.

◆ DO NOT LOOSEN OR OPEN the GIS's doors/panels except when conducting

inspections by authorized personnel, or in an emergency.
When the unit's doors or panels have been opened, unauthorized personnel should not
touch the unit's internal components because they may still be charged with residual
electricity.
Also, injury to hands or other limbs could result if the GIS is inadvently activated via
remote control while maintenance. Also, injury to personnel are inside the unit.

◆ To prevent injuries caused by rapid release of gas pressures, DO NOT LOOSEN

any bolts of the GIS's airtight parts when the unit is being operated. Doing so could
cause injuries resulting from contact with bolts and other parts that were blown loose
by releasing internal gas pressures.

◆ To prevent equipment damage and personnel injuries resulting from falls.

DO NOT ALLOW personnel to climb on or lean aginst the unit's gas piping and cable
ducts.

◆ Since 0.2 ~ 0.5 kg/㎠ (20 ~ 50kpa) SF 6 gas or dry air is filled in the gas tank and
the bushing during transportation, never open the stop valve before assembling.

◆ Because the GIS is a large unit comprised of sophisticated, electrically charged

equipment, operators and maintenance personnel should refrain from climbing on it
or working on the unit from unstable platforms so as to prevent personnel injuries
resulting from falls.

◆ DO NOT TOUCH the GIS's heater directly with ungloved hands. Because the heater
operates at high temperatures, doing so could cause burns.

◆ To avoid accidental jnjuries. Do not begin equipment inspections until first confirming
that the GCB and all related equipment have been 1) turned OFF and 2) are fully
de-energized.

◆ When conducting inspections of the GIS unit, do not remove any of the unit's panels
and covers until first confirming that the unit's internal gas pressure has been fully
released. Loosening the unit's panels and covers while the unit is still pressurized
could cause injury to personnel resulting from contact with bolts and other parts that
were blown loose by releasing internal gas pressures.

◆ To prevent moisture seepage from water and other sources, KEEP all doors and
access panels on the GIS closed and securely fastend.

◆ To prevent damage to the surface of the unit's operating-mechanism box (as well as
moisture seepage that could result from such damage), DO NOT ALLOW personnel
to climb onto or lean against any portion of the operating-mechanism box.

◆ To prevent moisture within the equipment, leave the LCP's heater ON at all times.

◆ To assure proper gas pressure, DO NOT open/close valves when operating the GIS.

◆ To prevent gas leakage, DO NOT loosen any blots on the GIS or its piping. Panels

145kV 40kA GIS/ GENERAL & TECHNICAL DATA

1. GAS INSULATED SWITCHGEAR

The gas insulated switchgear (GIS) is a substation unit comprising switchgear and
buses enclosed in a grounded metallic sheath and filled with pressurixed SF 6 gas.
This construction can minimize total substation size, improve safety and economy
and attain a high reliability and labor-saving maintenance using the merits of insulation
space reduction and simplicity.
Hyundai. The first, delivered GIS to SAMSUNG SEMI-CONDUCTOR CO. in 1989.
Since than many GIS units have been shipped for use in outdoor, indoor and
underground substation with favorable operation results.

2. GENERAL GIS FEATURES

Although the GIS has many excellent features as described below, some care should
be taken in practical applications to make the best use of these merits.

(1) Installation space reduction

By adoting the GIS, which has several times higher insulation capability than
air insulated apparatus, the volume and occupied space can be considerably
reduced in reverse proportion to increase in operating voltage level.
If the entire substation is made up of GIS units, involving buses, the size
reduction effect is much greater.

(2) Safety increase

Since all live parts of switchgear are contained in a grounded metallic sheath,
electric shock danger and damage to equipment or bus by dust particles can
be avoided.
By rational arrangement of the components and buses, operation safety is
increasingly assured.

(3) Free from fire hazard

Through using noninflammable materials, such as SF6 gas, for insulators
and structures, and also enclosing equipment in the metallic sheath, GIS is
practically free from fire hazard.

(4) Higher reliability

Since the GIS is wholly enclosed, no external conditions, for example,
contamination, weather condition and atmospheric pollution affect it.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
━━━━━━━━━━
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
- 16 -
145kV 40kA GIS/ GENERAL & TECHNICAL DATA
Thus, a highly reliable switchgear can be obtained.

(5) Lower noise level

Since all switching devices are operated in the metallic sheath, there is no
arcing outside and a lower noise level can be attained, compared with a
conventional system.

3. HYUNDAI GIS FEATURE

(1) Full adoption of single-pressure gas circuit breaker.

The single-pressure gas circuit breaker is adopted for all ratings as standard,
since it has a simpler operating principle than the double-pressure gas circuit
breaker.
Therefore, gas construction is simple and there are fewer components, and gas
pressure is lower.
Consequently, there is no fear gas liquifying.
Thus, the unit has reliability, low cost and easy maintenance further, higher
quality is attained by standardization and mass production of parts commonly
used with independent tank gas circuit breaker.

(2) Seal off system

The gas control seal off system is adopted as standard on the basis of develop-
ment and operation results obtained over the past ten years, no camplicated
piping and gas compressor are required.
Piping becomes simple and the number of parts required is greatly reduced.

(3) Heavy current rating is available

The breaker up to heavy current rating standardized systematically for all the
following voltage classes.
All equipment is highly reliable and self-cooled.

(4) Inspection
It is usually necessary to inspect and maintain the circuit breaker, when a
specified number of switching operations has been reached. In the case, the
inspection is usually done on the site without movement. If required, units can
be dismounted structurally for inspection and maintenance.

◆ DO NOT REMOVE the unit's shunt bar or grounding terminal. Doing so could
subject personnel to hazardous voltage that can shock, burn or cause death.
Before removing the unit's shunt bar or grounding terminal for maintenance or repairs

◆ DO NOT ENTER the GIS's room until you have confirmed that its interior environ-
ment has ventilated, and contains at least 18% density of oxygen.
Personnel entering before confirming oxygen and ventilation levels could be overcome
by fumes that cause choking and suffocation.

◆ To prevent injuries resulting from falls, DO NOT ALLOW personnel to climb, sit on,
lean against, or otherwise mount the GIS equipment except when conducting official
equipment inspections by authorized personnel.

DO NOT ALLOW personnel to climb on or lean against the unit's gas piping and cable

◆ To avoid accidental injuries.

◆ To prevent moisture seepage from water and other sources, KEEP all doors and
access panels on the GIS closed and securely fastened.

Panels

◆ Operate the GIS only within the range of its rated gas pressures. If the GIS's gas
pressure drops below its rated level, contact your Hyundai's representative to check
for depleted gas supplies and/or system leaks.

◆ To prevent equipment malfunction, operators or maintenance personnel should check

Fig. 3 SCHEMATIC OF OPENING OPERATION

DESCRIPTION
A. CLOSED POSITION
B. OPENING : MAIN CONTACT IN OPEN POSITION
C. OPENING : ARCING CONTACT IN OPEN POSITION
D. OPEN POSITION

Shows the schematics of opening operation.

In the closed position, normal and short-circuit current flows between the fixed
main contact (3) and the moving main contact (5) (Fig. 3A)
In the first step in the opening operation, the main contact, consisting of the fixed
main contact (3) and the moving main contact (5), are opened.
The arcing contact, consisting of the fixed arcing contact (2) and the moving
arcing contact (4), is still closed so that the current commutates to the arcing
contact (Fig. 3B).
During the continued course of the opening operation, the arcing contact opens
creating an arc (Fig. 3C, 3D)
At the same time, the thermal expansion chamber (6) moves downward and
compresses the SF 6 gas inside puffer chamber (7).

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
━━━━━━━━━━
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
- 105 -
145kV 40kA GIS/CB

This cause the SF6 gas to be forced in the direction opposite to the movement
of the moving contact components, through the valve (8) into the thermal
expansion chamber (6) and through the insulating nozzle (1), thus extinguishes
the arc.
With large short-circuit currents the extinguishing gas between the fixed arcing
contact (2) and the moving arcing contact (4) is heated by the arc's energy and
filled into thermal expansion chamber (6) at high pressure.
When the current passes through zero, the gas flows back from the thermal
expansion chamber (6) through the insulating nozzle (1) and extinguisher the arc.

4. MOTOR SPRING CHARGED MECHANISM MANUAL

4.1. SCOPE
The instruction book is applied to the 145kV 40kA 2000/1250A GIS.
The information provides including general construction detail and operation
/maintenance structure.

4.2. Description
The mechanism is a spring-operated mechanism where the interrupters are opened
and closed solely by helical coil spring.
The mechanism stores operating energy in two sets of springs assemblies.
( the closing spring and opening spring. )
The closing spring are charged under normal conditions using a charging motor and gear
box assembly, a nd it can be manually charged if necessary.
During the closing operation, the mechanism moves to the CLOSED position and
simultaneously charges the opening spring using the stored energy of the closing
spring.
The mechanism contains enough stored energy in the CLOSED position with the closing
and opening spring charged to perform an open-close-open(O-C-O) operation without
re-charging.

The mechanism is available for use with all common operating voltages.
Acceptable fluctuation in the operating voltages are per ANSI standard .
The standard CB is supplied with the two trip coil is capable of independently
tripping the CB.
The mechanism is equipped with the Heater for anti-condensation of humidity.
The mechanism contains the following major components.(Fig 5.)

1. Closing spring 11. Limit switch

4.3. Operating manual for motor-spring drive of CB

4.3.1 Design and main features

1) The spring operating mechanism stores the energy in coil springs

2) The opening spring drives directly the circuit breaker crank shaft.
3) The closing spring acts on cam disc via crankshaft
4) The strong DC geared motor charges quickly the closing spring.
5) At opening operation the damper stops the moving of contact system.
6) The auxiliary switches, optical position indicator and counter are operated by bars
and levers.
7) Charging the closing spring is possible also by hand crank.
8) The operation at local is secured by push buttons.
9) The hole for manual operation and ON-OFF push buttons are covered by
locked door.

4.3.2 The principle of operation (Fig 6.)

The circuit breaker is operated by a opening spring (11) and a closing spring (6).
Both coil spring colums are located in the main frame, on the top of CB.
The closing spring charged by means of motor (8)with an adapted ratchet system(14)
or by manual handle.
Rotation with manual handle (10) of gear box in the clockwise direction charges the
closing spring.
The rotation should be stopped after a good audible crank noise from the drive.
(This noise caused by the closing bit, which hooked up at closing latch(4).
The further rotation could damage the drive. At releasing of closing latch (4)
the charged closing spring (6) rotate the disc cam (3) counterclockwise, turn the CB
driving axle (12) in clockwise closing of CB and charges the opening spring (11)
in the same time.
At releasing of opening latch (1) the charged opening spring (11) rotate the CB
driving axle(12) counter clockwise (opening of CB). The releasing of latches (1,4)
is possible by remote control electrically at control room or by manual directly at local.
The auxiliary switches position indicator and counter are driven by push-pull bars.
The driving lever is fixed directly to the CB driving axle end.

After completed charging process , the limit switch (15) (micro switch), via magnetic
contact stops the motor operation. The control disc cam are mounted onto crank shaft end.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
━━━━━━━━━━
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
- 121 -
145kV 40kA GIS/CB

After completed closing process , the limit switch (15) starts the motor operation, and
charges the closing spring (6) again. Manual handle (10) operation is possible after
opening the locked door onto drive cover. Likewise after opening this door the Operation
of drive by push button.

4.3.2.1 Normal service position (Fig.6)

The normal position of CB when its contacts (9) are closed, and the opening spring (11)
and closing spring (6) are charged. The CB is ready to perform a tripping, or ready to
perform a full auto reclosing cycle O-0.3s-CO, and the interlock lever(19) prevents
the close coil(17) from operating while the opening spring are charged.

4.3.2.2. Tripping operation (Fig.7.)

To open the CB contacts (9) operate the opening latch (1) by trip coil or by hand.
The opening spring (11) performs the opening operation. At opening the moving of
the contact system is damped by damper (13) at the end of the operation.
This spring drive assures a very reliable opening of CB contacts, because the
opening spring (11) acts directly to the CB driving axle (12) and the robust opening
latch (1) contains only few moving part.

Fig 7. Tripping operation

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
━━━━━━━━━━
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
- 123 -
145kV 40kA GIS/CB

4.3.2.3. Closing operation and charging the closing spring (Fig.8,9)

After releasing the closing latch (4), the CB contacts (9) will be closed.
The closing spring(6) acts onto mainshaft (5) turns the disc cam (3) and push
the roller fixed into opening arm(2).The opening arm rotates, together with the CB
driving axle(12). This impulse brings CB contacts(9) in closed position.
At the same time the opening spring(11) is charged. At the end of the motion the
opening bit(18) of opening arm (2) mounted onto the CB driving axle (12) hooked
up at opening latch(1). So the opening spring (11) remains in charged position
and the contact(9) of CB remains in closed position.
When the closing spring (6) is released, the motor starts and begins to charge
the closing spring (6). After about half rotation the charging is completed, the
motor(8) will be stopped by limit switch(15), and the closing spring (6) remains in
charged position, because the closing bit of disc cam assembly(3) hooked up
at closing latch(4). The quick movement of disc cam(3) and crank shaft(5) is
secured by the overrunning clutch between crank shaft and worm wheel(14).
In emergency the closing spring can be charged by manual handle(10), by rotating
the gear box.

4.3.2.4. Manual charging fo Closing Spring(Fig 10)

In the event of no power supply for the motor, the closing spring can be
charged by manual handle.

1. Open the cover by tuning left

2. Insert the extension bar and the Rachet manual handle
3. Turn the Rachet manual handle clockwise until audible crack noise
sound from drive (This noise caused by the closing bit, which hooked up at
closing latch. The further rotation could damage the drive)

Caution : -The manual charging tools can be used only for charging of the
closing spring and cannot be used for manual discharging of it,
since the free wheel (which is placed in worm wheel) acts in
charging direction only.
- After complete of manual charging, Check whether the limit switch
is operated properly.

5. Electrical functions of drive

- Tripping circuits
Drive is equipped with two independent tripping coils. These can be operated
manually by push button or by electrically from local cabinet respectively
remote from control room. When the breaker is in open position auxiliary
contacts interrupt the circuits of tripping coils.

- Closing circuit
The closing coil can be operated manually by push-button or by electrically
from local control cabinet resp. remote from control room.
When the breaker is closed, the auxiliary contact interrupts the circuit of closing
coil.

- Interlocking at tripping
The tripping coils can be energized across auxiliary contacts only when
breaker is closed.
When gas density is too low gas density monitor interrupt the energizing of
interlocking relays, which open the circuits of tripping coils.

- Interlocking at closing
The closing coil can be energized across auxiliary contacts only when breaker
is opened.
Anti pumping relay cancels the persisting closing signal after successful
completion of closing operation.
When gas density is too low gas density monitor interrupt energizing of
interlocking relay, which open the circuit of closing coil.

◆ DO NOT REMOVE the unit's shunt bar or grounding terminal. Doing so could
subject personnel to hazardous voltage that can shock, burn or cause death.
Before removing the unit's shunt bar or grounding terminal for maintenance or repairs

145kV 40kA GIS DS/ES

◆ DO NOT ENTER the GIS's room until you have confirmed that its interior environ-
ment has ventilated, and contains at least 18% density of oxygen.
Personnel entering before confirming oxygen and ventilation levels could be overcome
by fumes that cause choking and suffocation.

◆ To prevent injuries resulting from falls, DO NOT ALLOW personnel to climb, sit on,
lean against, or otherwise mount the GIS equipment except when conducting official
equipment inspections by authorized personnel.

DO NOT ALLOW personnel to climb on or lean against the unit's gas piping and cable
ducts.

◆ Since 0.2 ~ 0.5 kg/㎠ (20 ~ 50kpa) SF 6 gas or dry air is filled in the gas tank and
the bushing during transportation, never open the stop valve before assembling.

equipment, operators and maintenance personnel should refrain from climbing on it
or working on the unit from unstable platforms so as to prevent personnel injuries
resulting from falls.

◆ DO NOT TOUCH the GIS's heater directly with ungloved hands. Because the heater
operates at high temperatures, doing so could cause burns.

◆ To avoid accidental injuries.

◆ To prevent moisture seepage from water and other sources, KEEP all doors and
access panels on the GIS closed and securely fastened.

◆ To prevent damage to the surface of the unit's operating-mechanism box (as well as
moisture seepage that could result from such damage), DO NOT ALLOW personnel
to climb onto or lean against any portion of the operating-mechanism box.

◆ DO NOT REMOVE the unit's shunt bar or grounding terminal. Doing so could
subject personnel to hazardous voltage that can shock, burn or cause death.
Before removing the unit's shunt bar or grounding terminal for maintenance or repairs

◆ To avoid accidental injuries.

◆ To prevent moisture seepage from water and other sources, KEEP all doors and
access panels on the GIS closed and securely fastened.

◆ To prevent damage to the surface of the unit's operating-mechanism box (as well as
moisture seepage that could result from such damage), DO NOT ALLOW personnel
to climb onto or lean against any portion of the operating-mechanism box.

Panels

on the GIS closed and access panels on the GIS closed and securely fastened.

◆ Operate the GIS only within the range of its rated gas pressures. If the GIS's gas
pressure drops below its rated level, contact your Hyundai's representative to check
for depleted gas supplies and/or system leaks.

◆ To prevent equipment malfunction, operators or maintenance personnel should check

the GIS gas-system schematic diagram to confirm safe gas-pressure levels and system
-operation status before opening/closing any system valves.

◆ The operating oil and lubricant in the oil-hydraulic operating mechanism should be
used only designated brands.

1. GENERAL

Bushing-type current transformer(BCT) is a current transformer which secondary

winding is distributed around a ring type core and mounted on gas-insulated switch-
gear(GIS) or circuit breaker(GCB).

CT provides a convenient source of secondary current supply for operation instrument,

meters and protective relays.

* CT has a long magnetic path and only one primary turn,

CT is insulated completely against primary winding by the earthed shield or earthed
enclosure of GIS (or GCB), while CT itself is the completely insulated permanently
assembled solenoidal secondary winding.

2. CONSTRUCTION

The construction of CT is shown as Fig. 2.

Low loss, high permeability, cold-rolled grain-oriented silicon-steel is used for the
core of CT.
The core(1) is covered with core insulation(2).
It is wrapped with yarn modified polyester non-woven tape as core insulation and the
proper number of turns of enamel-coated magnet wire are wound over the core (1).
If the secondary winding (4) is wound on more than two layers.
It is wrapped with yarn modified polyester non-woven tape as layer insulation (3).
Lead wires are connected to taps and ends of winding with joints insulated by
sleeves.
The CT is wrapped with yarn modified polyester non-woven tape as outer insulation(6).
Each set of CT is varnished completely to prevent the absorption of moisture after
testing and drying.

3. POLARITY AND CONNECTIONS

The terminals of the CT are marked P1, P2, etc. for the primary side and
S1, S2, etc. for the secondary terminals as shown Fig. 2.
Terminals that have the same numbering subscripts have the same
instantaneous polarity, as for example, terminals P1 and S1, or P2 and S2.
Connect CT leads to the corresponding terminals of outlet box.
Following cautions must be observed in connection and in service.

(1) Insulate all leads so that they will not in contact with any other leads or ground
parts.

(2) Ground one side of the secondary circuit unless doing so will interfere with the
proper operation of instruments.

permanently saturated and dangerous high voltages is induced on the second-

aryl circuit.

(4) The secondary terminals must be closed through a burden or by the short-
circuiting lead.

4. MOUNTING AND LOCATION

Fig. 1 shows the internal construction of metal tank (1) with the arrangements of
current transformers (3).
Current transformers are mounted on the supporting plated (8) and the center of
current transformer.
Secondary leads of current transformer carried out through the terminal box(7) to
the local control panel.
