Many governments think that economic progress is their most

important goal. Some people, however, think that other types of

progress are equally important for a country. Discuss both these
views and give your own opinion.

Mostly, the government makes economic development its priority, while some people argue that
the government should focus equally on other sectors as well for the well-being of a country’s
progress. This essay will analyze both points in turn and argue in favor of the latter.

On the one hand, economic growth is the key indicator of a country’s prosperity. There are
various reasons why the economy is considered a fundamental goal for any government. Firstly,
a healthy economy results in a lower inflation rate and creates new job opportunities. Secondly,
economic progress ensures that the government can spend revenues on infrastructure and public
services. For example, with economic stability, more money can be spent on transportation and
the health sector. Finally, a strong economy can improve a country’s standing on the global stage
in terms of its political and trade values.

On the other end, there are other sectors that are as important as economic progress. First and
foremost, the standard of education should be the same for all people. For instance, in many third
world countries, the education system is different for poor and wealthy people, and for this
reason, they are not able to prosper the way they want to. Another department is the judiciary, if
people are not able to get justice, there might be a possibility of betrayal, which results in more
violence. According to a survey, Pakistan ranks 130th among all countries in terms of justice,
which leads to increased terrorism and rule violations.

In my opinion, a country’s progress depends on the well-being of its citizens. Therefore, it

should be a core responsibility of any government to make such policies that focus equally on all
sectors for the betterment of a country.

To conclude, economic progress is a key factor in a country’s progress, but focusing on citizen's
rights is equally significant, and the government should play its role to make the country prosper.
