Orlando, a city in central Florida, is home to more than a

dozen theme parks. The best known is Walt Disney World, made
up of parks such as the Magic Kingdom and Epcot, as well as
water parks. Another important attraction is Universal Orlando,
with Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure, with the
Wizarding World of Harry Potter covering areas of both.
In addition to being a tourist hub, Orlando is also a financial
center, currently undergoing a phase of intense growth, with
numerous expansion projects underway. It is also considered for
eight consecutive years a leader in care and research in the health
area (Florida Hospital), has the second largest university in the
state of Florida (University of Central Florida) and a team in the
main American basketball league, the NBA ( Orlando Magic).
The region where the city of Orlando is located today, was
inhabited by a tribe of Native Americans known by the name of
Seminoles. During the First Seminole War a soldier named
Orlando Reeves was killed in 1836 on his sugar land, his body
buried next to a tree with his name written on it. Later, some
settlers who arrived in the region began to attribute the name
written on the tomb to the place where they settled there, thus
Orlando was how the place came to be known.

Universal Studios was founded in Chicago in 1912 by Carl

Laemmle. In 1914 he bought a 230-acre ranch at the east end of
the San Fernando Valley for $165,000, which was to be the
world's first film studio created expressly for the production of
feature-length films.
