THE TEACHER AND THE SOCIAL CURRICULUM

DIRECTION:
As a pre-service teacher, what is your perception of the top three priorities to be
included in a curriculum? Explain your answer. Please be concise, max of three
paragraphs.

One of the most important skills of a good teacher is good

communication skills. Communicating effectively with students creates a positive
learning environment and fosters student success. Good communication skills also
enable teachers to build strong relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
Communication is essential in the workplace. Good communication skills can help
you build strong working relationships, resolve conflict, and increase productivity.
Therefore, the importance of communication in the workplace cannot be
underestimated.
Listening is a two way process, both the teacher and student
are expected to pay attention to what is being conveyed. Only then does effective
communication take place. If there is effective communication in the classroom, than
there is effective learning in the classroom. One thing is, For a teacher to build a good
rapport and trust with students, students must feel listened to. This affirmation helps
students overcome inhibitions when approaching teachers and aids in the creating a
safe environment, encouraging them to confide and share their problems and needs
with their teachers.Being good listeners enables teachers to understand their
students better. Effective conversations with students can help identify strengths and
interests of students and can be utilized to structure lessons to motivate, inspire and
challenge them to do better.
There are so many human qualities that teachers need to
balance, like discipline, consistency, honesty, and more. But empathy is one of the
most important qualities that help teachers build strong relationships with their
students. When empathy guides your teaching, you’re able to see the world through
your students’ eyes. This leads to less judgment, more compassion, and a stronger
classroom community.but by practicing empathy, you’re also modeling it for your
students. Being equipped with empathy helps your students become strong leaders
as they move into adulthood.
