1 Subject : Important information on the installation of Inmarsat C and Inmarsat Mini-C EMEs
2 Product name : Inmarsat C and Inmarsat Mini-C
3 Model number : Inmarsat C JUE-87 and Inmarsat Mini-C JUE-95LT/95SA/95VM
4 Details
4.1 General
According to a failure analysis conducted in 2023, several JUE-87 IME-EME communication failures were
caused by the following: electrical circuit failures due to lightning strikes and induced lightning, flooding due to
coaxial cable damage, and waterproofing failures in the coaxial cable. These causes are closely related to the
installation of the EME, as a result we want to bring your attention to correct installation of the EME according
to the installation manual.
4.2 Information
The Important Information on installing EME (excerpt from the installation manual)

4.2.1 Precautions for handling EME

(1)Do not give mechanical shock and force, because all units of EME are precision instrument.
Unwanted shock and force may cause malfunction.
See JUE-87 Installation Manual page 3-4 3.3 EME CAUTION

4.2.2 Precautions for earthing EME

(1)EME shall always earth the antenna.
See JUE-87 Installation Manual page 2-12 2.4 Noise Countermeasure (Interference with Other Equipment)
(2)Fix the earth plate with the following parts.
Hex.screw nut N8, Spring washer SW8, Washer W8, Hex.screw nut N8
See JUE-87 Installation Manual page 3-7 3.3.1.2 Grounding Procedure

4.2.3 Precautions for coaxial cable installation

(1)Connect the pigtail cable and coaxial cable securely, taking care not to damage the connectors,
Secure the cable so that it is not overloaded.
See JUE-87 Installation Manual page 3-9 3.3.2 Connecting the Cables and Taping the Connector Part
(2)Following matters are required to avoid damaging cable and breakdown of equipments.
・Do not cut off the EME-IME Coaxial cable (it invalidates the warranty). Coil and secure the coaxial cable
in convenient place such as behind the Main Unit or bulkhead.
If reducing cable length is absolutely necessary, cut the “IME” side only. (see comment above regarding
warranty)
・Take care not to damage the connectors and the corrosion resistant sheath of cable.
・Do not pull the cable by gripping connector plug only.
See JUE-87 Installation Manual page 1-16 1.5.7 Coaxial Cable (CFQ-5922A)
See JUE-87 Installation Manual page 1-25 1.7.6 Coaxial Cable (CFQ-9710)

2.4 Noise Countermeasure (Interference with Other Equipment)
Earthing of EME antenna is highly recommended when trouble is caused in transmission
(noise interference, etc.) due to occurrence of interference with other communication device.

NOTE

Following matters are required to avoid damaging cable and breakdown of equipments.
 Avoid cutting off the EME-IME Coaxial cable unnecessary. Coil and secure the coaxial cable
in convenient compartment such as behind the Main Unit or bulkhead.
 Take care not to damage the connectors and the corrosion resistant sheath of cable.
 Do not pull the cable by gripping connector plug only.

(1) The connector plugs installed on both coaxial ends are adaptable to connector receptacles of
either EME or IME.

(2) The recommended minimum bending radius is 46mm.

3.3 EME

WARNING
Fixing EME to the mounting adapter should be done on a deck or in a cabin before
climbing to a mast. When parts or apparatuses fall, it may strike a human body and it
may cause injury.

CAUTION
Do not give mechanical shock and force, because all units of EME are precision
instrument. Unwanted shock and force may cause malfunction.

Do not paint radome. Painting of radome may cause decrease of the communication
quality.
