Ch-1 Introduction
1.1 Background of the study

A person's ability to grow personally and for

society to advance depends on their education. Since today's
youngsters will be tomorrow's leaders, every country should
place a high premium on educating this generation. Prior to the
invention of technology, education systems throughout the
globe relied on conventional face-to-face teaching and learning
methods. However, these days, education systems are digital.
Due to the increasing use of the Internet, even those living in
remote locations can now access high-quality education without
being limited by distance.
Online tutoring offers support for nearly any subject
conceivable, including programming, design, business acumen,
language ability, and more, from basic elementary school concepts
to sophisticated technical skill sets. One of the latest trends in
teaching is M learning or Mobile-learning. “M-learning combines
both mobile computing and e-learning, which includes online
resources, rich interactive content, strong support for affective
learning and performance-based assessment” (Quinn, 2001). As
smartphones have become common among students, educators
around the world have started using smart phones to impart
learning.
Digital education platforms may incorporate more
interactive and immersive experiences, leveraging technologies
such as artificial intelligence and virtual reality to enhance
engagement and personalization.
1.2 Rational of the study

In today's rapidly changing world, education is also

undergoing significant transformation.
The study would examine an overview of digital
education and its significance in modern learning
environments. The goal of the study is to comprehend
consumer trends and preferences in traditional and online
schooling. It would go over the reasons behind the trend
towards online learning, including changing demographics,
developing learning demands, and technical improvements.
The paper sheds light on the complex interplay of
factors influencing consumers' decisions between online
and traditional education modalities. It will also examine the
factors like the flexibility level, cost effectiveness, location,
time etc., that consumer keep in mind while choosing
between the two.
This study employs a mixed-methods approach,
combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to
gather data on consumers' preferences and decision-making
processes.

2. Research Objectives.
• To study the current E-learning market and predicting the
future growth.
• To examine the impact of digital transformation in this
industry, its benefits, and challenges.
3. Literature Review
Initially, a study of the literature was conducted to get an
understanding of the notion of e-learning, its history, its evolution,
and the latest trends, obstacles, hurdles, and innovations in the e-
learning space. The process of teaching and learning has changed
significantly over time. According to a report by KPMG India and
Google, the online education market in India is expected to grow to
$1.96 billion and register 9.6 million users by 2021 (Google-
KPMG.(2020)

• However, socioeconomic differences, such as those pertaining to

gender and accessibility, impede the effective adoption of online
learning. The authors of the study "How Inclusive Is Online Education
in India" examine and highlight a number of variables, such as
accessibility, gender, socioeconomic characteristics, and regulatory
challenges, that may be responsible for the sharp differences in the
viability of the online education landscape in India. (M S, N., &
Siddiqui, I. (2022)

• It was also mentioned by Jennefer K Shanthini(December,2022) in

the research paper about "Challenges and Opportunities for Online
Learning in India." that while e-learning and mobile technology
adoption can be effective solutions, there are still issues that must
be resolved. The study explores the benefits and problems
associated with online education in India, emphasising e-learning's
potential as a 21st-century educational solution. Additionally, it
talks about the need to address issues and complications in
implementing mobile and e-learning technologies during future
pandemic situations in India.
• . Aravinda, Bhat. (2022), in their research about “Privatisation of
Open and Distance Learning and Online Education in India.”
showed the emergence of Open and Distance Learning (ODL) in
India and its contribution to the expansion of higher education
possibilities are discussed in the article. It states that the Gross
Enrollment Ratio (GER) of higher education in India would rise
significantly as a result of ODL and virtual learning.

• Alina, E., Vinnik., Svetlana, N., Pryadko. (2023) in their research study
about ‘Analysis of market indicators and prospects for online
education development in segment of massive open online
courses’ examines the dynamics of the massive open online course
(MOOC) segment of the online education industry and concludes
that there is a high level of interest and potential for growth in this
market.

4. Research Methodology

Research methodology is crucial for collecting, organizing, and analysing

data. By selecting appropriate data collection methods, sampling
techniques, and statistical analyses, researchers can effectively address
research questions and generate meaningful insights from their data.
1) There are many alternative methodologies for collecting data.
The primary sources for gathering data are through questionnaire,
observations and through personal interviews.
2) Various other secondary data can be through websites, research
papers, journals etc., for collecting the information.
3) The research methodology will be carried on by several statistical
tools to analyse the data collected from surveys such as hypothesis
between many factors like cost, location, time, annual income etc.
Eg- chi-square test can be used to analyse categorical data and
examine the relationship between variables, such as the
association between preferred education modality (online vs.
traditional) and demographic factors (age, gender, income level,
etc.).
4) Regression analysis can be used to examine the relationship
between independent variables and a dependent variable
controlling for potential confounding variables.
