Three types of analysis

• Univariate analysis – the examination of the distribution of cases on only one variable at a time (e.g., weight of college
students)

• Bivariate analysis – the examination of two variables simultaneously (e.g., the relation between gender and weight of college
students)

• Multivariate analysis – the examination of more than two variables simultaneously (e.g., the relationship between gender,
race and weight of college students)

Descriptive Statistical Techniques

a. Frequency Distribution – It is a table that contains the data and their frequency or how often they occur in a study.

b. Measure of Central Tendency – It indicates the different positions or values of the items. It attempts to describe a set of
data by identifying the central position within that set of data.

• Mean – average of all of the items or score

• Median – the score in the middle of the set items that cuts or divides the set into two (2) groups
• Mode –the item or score in the data set that has the most repeated appearance in the set

c. Measures of Spread

• Range - is the difference between the lowest and highest values

• Standard Deviation – It tells how spread numbers are and shows the extent of the difference of the data from the
mean.

• Variance – It is the square of the standard deviation.

• Covariance - is a measure of the joint variability of two random variables

Statistical data analysis Test

A. The Chi-squared test is probably the most popular significance test used to analyze frequency counts.
B. The most widely used statistical method for testing correlation is the Pearson's product moment correlation
coefficient test.
C. The most widely adopted statistical procedure for comparing two means is the t test.

SPSS Statistics is a software package used for interactive, or batched, statistical analysis
