The following section covers the above four topics grouped for each function. The pre-operation procedures,
when provided are to verify that functional circuits are operating and to help gain familiarity with the equipment features.
Refer to section 4 for all ULT-3000 controls, indicators and functions when performing the pre-operation checks.

5-1: Power Switch

The main power switch controls the power source for the whole trainer. The trainer will only get the power source
when the power switch has been turned on, and the light on the switch is on.

Specifications:
Output Voltage: +0V to +25V, -0V to -25V
Output Current: 1.0A max
Line Regulation: < 1% @ 0 - 25Vdc
Load Regulation: < 30mV @ 0 – 0.5A

Operation:
The two independent variable power supply outputs are connected between the "+V and GND" and also
the "-V and GND". Each output is controlled individually by the "+V" and "-V" controls.

Application:
The variable power supply outputs can be used to power different linear devices such as operational
amplifiers and TTL, CMOS, and compatible logic devices.

Application:
The +5 and -5 power supplies can be used as the source power of logic circuits such as TTL or CMOS.

Application:
The +12 and -12 power supplies can be used as the source power of logic circuits such as TTL or CMOS.

Power: 1/4 watt

Operation:
Connect the signal to the input market "+" and "-" speaker input. The input should not exceed 1/4 watt. (V less
than 2.83 Vrms, 4 Vpeak, or 8 Vp-p)

Pre-Operation Check:
1. Connect the "~" sine function generator output to the "+" speaker input.
2. Connect the GND of the function generator to the "-" speaker input.
3. Set the frequency range switch to the "X100" position and slowly increase the amplitude control until the
speaker sounds.

Application:
For exercising the audio experiment, use the speaker as the output load. When there has some
Response, sound can be heard from the speaker.

The output frequency is continuously variable between these ranges by adjusting the variable frequency control
knob.
The amplitude is variable for the sine wave, triangle and square wave by adjusting the amplitude control knob.

Operation:
The output of each function is made at the terminals as shown in Fig 4. All outputs are available simultaneously at
the same frequency. Select the frequency range and then fine tune the frequency using the Variable Frequency
Control Knob. Adjust the amplitude of the sine, triangle and Square wave using the Amplitude control.

Pre-Operation Check:
The output of the function generator can be observed by using an oscilloscope. Connect the outputs to the
oscilloscope being certain to connect GND to GND between the Oscilloscope and ULT-3000. The GND on the
ULT-3000 is common with the AC Power ground connection. Most oscilloscopes also have their input ground pin
common with the AC power ground of the oscilloscope. Please make sure that the grounds are connected properly.

Application:
The function generator can be used to generate input stimuli waveforms for all types of digital and analog circuits.
It should be noted however that for triggering TTL and compatible gates the negative portion of the square wave
should be removed. This can be accomplished by using a comparator or clipping circuit.

Pre-Operation Check:
1. Connect the "0" Data switch to the DMM input.
2. Connect the GND to the DMM input.
3. Turn the selector switch to TTL output (+5V)
4. Set the "0" Data Switch to the "0" position and verify that the DMM reads approximately 0 volts.
5. Set the "0" Data Switch to the "1” position and verify that the DMM reads approximately +5 volts.
6. Repeat steps 1 - 4 for "1 “through "15" Data Switches.
7. Turn the selector switch to CMOS output (+12V)
8. Set the "0" Data Switch to the "0" position and verify that the DMM reads approximately 0 volts.
9. Set the "0" Data Switch to the "1” position and verify that the DMM reads approximately +12
volts.
10. Repeat steps 1 - 4 for "1 “through "15" Data Switches.

Applications:
The Data Switches "0" - "15" provide a logic high (+5V) / CMOS (+12V) or low (0 V) output which are
short circuit current limit protected. These switches are placed in an open circuit state condition when the
switch is activated. These switches can be used independently to provide a 1 or 0 logic state, or they can
be used together to represent an 8 bit byte, BCD or other coded input. And it’s also can be use to provide
CMOS outputs.

Operation:
1. When the ‘ ’ positive pulse switch is depressed, the circuit will generate a single positive pulse of
approximately 80uS duration. When the switch is not pressed the output is at, normally low output
level.

2. When the “ ” negative pulse switch is depressed, the circuit will generate a single negative of
approximately 80uS duration. When the switch is not pressed the output is at a normally high output
level.

Application:
The pulse switches provide a clean pulse with position and negative transitions which can be to trigger edge
sensitive input devices such as the Flip Flop gates.

Pre-Operation Check:
1. Connect the "Y" switch output to the DMM input and the GND to the "-" DMM input.
2. Set the switch to the "on" position and verify the DMM reads approximately +5V.

3. Now connect the "Y’" switch output to the DMM input and the GND to the "-" DMM input.
Verify the DMM reads approximately 0 V.
4. Connect the "Y" switch output to the DMM input and the GND to the "-" DMM input.
5. Set the switch to the "off" position and verify the DMM reads approximately 0V.
6. Now connect the "Y’" switch output to the DMM input and the GND to the "-" DMM input.
Verify the DMM reads approximately +5 V.
7. It worked similar for the X switch.

5-8: Three (3) State Logic Probe

Specifications:
Inputs: 0V to 5 Vdc

Operation:
1. When the input of probe is logic high state, the TOP LED (which beside HI) will on to indicate high.
2. When the input is logic low state, the BOTTOM LED (which beside LO) will on to indicate low.
3. If the input is floating state or none connecting any input, the MIDDLE LED (which beside "-") will on.

Pre-Operation Check:
1. Connect the probe "IN" to the Data Switch "0"; and set the "0" Data switch to the "1” position to verify
that the probe displays "1 ".
2. Set the "0" Data Switch to the "0" Position to verify that the probe displays "0"
3. Non connect the probe "IN" to verify that it displays
Application:
If just want to know some position to designed circuit is logic high or low state, using the 3 state logic
probe to test is more convenient. From the display can ensure the circuit state is high (1”), low ("0"), or
open ("-").

Specifications:
Inputs: +5 to +15 Vdc
Operation:
The LED display provides a visual indication of the high or low status of the input logic signals. Each input must
be held at a high (+5Vdc) level in order to illuminate the respective LED.

Pre-Operation Check:
1. Connect the outputs of the 16 Data Switches to the corresponding LED inputs. The GND connection is tied
internally and need not be connected.
2. Set the data switches to various positions and verify that the LEDs illuminate when the data switches are in
the “1” position.

Application:
The LED’s can be used to display an 16 bit binary integer or two BCD integers in binary format.

Specification:
1. Consist of two 19VAC, two 15VAC outputs.
Operation:
Connect one of the outputs to one of the 19V/15V point and another output to one of the point 0.

Specification:
Two sets of BCD (Binary Code Decimal) with 7-segment LED display.

Operation:
The 7-segment LED display 7S-1 and 7S-2 show “0” when connected to 4 Data Switches at low state, which
means the binary input is 0000, so decimal reading is 0. When Data Switch 7 (right side) at up position (output +
high), the LED display will show”1”, that means the binary input is 0001, so decimal reading is 1. Set the Data
Switch 6 at up position, the LED now shows "3", that means the binary input is 0011, so decimal reading is 3.
Proceed to the step with Data Switches 5 & 4, and observe the number displayed on the LED. It will changed by
different binary input.

The decimal reading counts from 0 to 9, total 10 digits

The 4mm adaptor consists of four sockets (4mm size) where the outputs for each sockets connected directly to 4
numbers of turn pins.

SECTION 6: MAINTANANCE

WARNING
Remove power prior for performing maintenance on equipment. Failure to do so can cause serious
injury to personnel.

Maintenance consists of fuse replacement, calibration adjustment procedures, and periodic cleaning. Performing the
calibration and adjustment procedures only by Authorized Service Engineer, otherwise the warranty will void.

CAUTION
The following procedures should only be performed by persons trained and qualified in electronics and
electronic equipment service. Do not attempt these procedures if not qualified.

6-1: Fuse Replacement

1. Ensure AC power is disconnected from equipment.


2. Turn to back of ULT-3000 and locate the fuse package.
3. Open the fuse cover and remove the dysfunction fuse.
4. Replace with the same type and style fuse of 3A, 250V or equal specifications.

6-2: Cleaning

The ULT-3000 can be cleaned with a dry, soft cloth to remove any oil, grease, or grime from the equipment.
Never use liquid solvents or detergents. If the equipment got wet for any reason, dry using low pressure air (less
than 25 PSI). Use care and caution around areas where water or air could enter the interior of the equipment while
drying.
