Emerging Mexican Contemporary Painting
Gallery Nights

This first exhibition marks the beginning of a series of

events that seek to offer Punta Mita’s community a diffe-
rent perspective. We inspire to open a window to the diver-
sity of artistic and cultural manifestations in Mexico. The
program is motivated by the possibility of offering a space
built by the community’s residents, through the fusion of a
new cultural language in the area.
Thank you to
To open, we present the work of two emerging Mexican
artists, Verónica Bape and Cesar Catsúu López. The artists Punta Mita
deal with the theme of identity, yet their differing positions
are juxtaposed to create a unique conversation.

Bape’s portraiture is her central point of human recogni-

tion. Modifying the information of the face through the use
of form, she utilizes graphics by extracting, erasing and
covering parts of the affected human faces. Verónica uses
representation, recognition, and mystery as the driving for-
ce of this series.

By contrast, the work of Catsúu López derives from forms

and colors extracted from the graphic and pictorial identity
of his community. The forms and compositions are sour-
ced from fabric, landscapes and the lives and history of
his community. Cesar uses his life’s history to create an
abstract world that reflects the uniqueness of his life and
heritage.
