Q1: Multiple-choice questions

What does RGB stand for in graphic design? (2.5marks)

a) Red, Green, Blue
b) Resolution, Grid, Borders
c) Rotation, Gradient, Balance
d) Render, Generate, Build
NB: Refer notes, read the following part of Graphic Design Basics - 3.1.1. Pixel

Which file format is commonly used for high-quality print graphics? (2.5marks)
a) JPEG
b) GIF
c) PNG
d) TIFF

graphic design? (2.5marks)
a) JPG
b) PNG
c) GIF
d) BMP

Q2: Classifying image file formats is crucial in graphic design and digital media. Two
fundamental categories include lossy and lossless compression. Lossy formats
sacrifice quality for smaller file sizes, while lossless maintains quality. Another
distinction is vector and raster formats. Vectors use mathematical equations for
scalability, while rasters/bitmaps employ grids of pixels.

a) Tick to classify below tabulated commonly used image file formats(5Marks)

File Format Vector Raster/Bitmap Lossy Lossless
GIF  
PNG  
TIFF  
JPEG  
SVG  

b) List and describe at least three (3) significant roles of compressing images
before they are used in various ways. (2.5Marks)
1. Reduced storage: Compressed images occupy less disk space
 (w/c is crucial for efficient storage and data management)
2. Faster loading: Compressed images load more quickly on websites
 (this improve user experience and reduce website bounce rates)
3. Bandwidth savings: this enhance faster data transfer
 (this reduce data cost)

4. Efficient transmission: when sharing compressed images through any

networks or email, compress accelerates transmission, saving time and
resources.

NB: All about this Q2, refer notes, read the following part of Graphic Design Basics
3.1.4. Image compression,
3.2. Description of common raster formats
3.3. Description of common vector formats

Q3: Graphic design is a great career for people who are creative thinkers and enjoy
art, technology, and communication and sometimes graphic designers can choose to
use a given design tool based on project requirements or tool capabilities.

websites and apps.
5. Graphic illustration: Graphic illustrators are usually tasked with creating
illustrations for commercial and editorial purposes, as well as illustrations that
live on web designs and social media.
6. Data Visualization & Infographic Design: Data visualization and infographic
designers need to have a solid understanding of how to represent data
accurately and in ways that make it easier to understand.

b) Briefly explain some capabilities of Adobe Illustrator that differentiate it

from Adobe Photoshop. (2.5 marks)
Photoshop: Photoshop is a graphic editor that is best used for image editing.

While

Illustrator: with Illustrator, you can create everything. From vector illustrations
and logos to graphics and fonts. While Illustrator shares many similar tools and
functions with Photoshop, it is centered on vector design, which means that you
can resize and rescale designs without losing image clarity.

Q4: A webpage is a type of Graphical User Interface and at the same time, it can be
a visual way for users to interact with web-based software typically using graphical
elements like buttons, menus, etc. Webpages, as part of websites, provide a visual
interface through which users can navigate, interact with content, and access
information or services using elements such as input controls, informational and
navigational components and containers. The web browser serves as the platform
for displaying this graphical user interface to users.

a) Classify by matching the following graphical elements. (5marks)

a) Date field
b) Text fields
c) Checkboxes
1) Input controls d) Pagination
2) Informational component e) Image Carousel
3) Navigational component f) Breadcrumb
4) Containers g) Modal windows
h) Tooltips
i) Notifications
j) Accordion
NB: Refer notes, read the following part of Graphic Design Basics - 2.3. Some elements of interface design
