Beaded Beanie

Beaded Beanie

Sizing: Small – 14” circumference (Medium – 16”, Large – 18”)


Gauge: 20 stitches in 4” in garter stitch
Materials:
-US 7 (4.5mm) AND US 6 (4mm) circular needles 16” long
-Two 50 gram skeins of Plymouth Cleo (100% Mercerized cotton) or 250 yards comparable DK weight
mercerized cotton yarn.
-225 (255, 285) Size 6/0 beads.
Abbreviations used: YO – Yarn Over; K2tog – Knit 2 together.
To begin, string 2/3 of the total beads onto first skein of yarn and push beads back toward skein, leaving a 2
yard length of yarn at the beginning for casting on. In the alternative, you can use any method you prefer
to affix beads to knitting (crochet hook, etc). String the remaining beads onto the second skein of yarn.
Throughout knitting, continue to push reserve beads back toward skein until they are needed.

With US 7 needle, cast-on 70 (80, 90) stitches using the long-tail cast-on. Join in the round being careful
not to twist.
Rounds 1 & 2 Purl around.
Round 3 Knit around.
Round 4 Purl around.
Round 5 Knit around.
Round 6 Purl around.
Round 7 *YO twice, push bead up onto second YO, P1* repeat around
Round 8 Purl around.
Round 9 Knit around.
Rounds 10 & 11 Purl around.
Round 12 *YO, K2tog* repeat around
Round 13 Purl around.
Round 14 Knit around.
Round 15 Purl around.
Round 16 *YO three times, push bead up onto third YO, P1* repeat around.
Round 17 Purl around.
Round 18 Knit around.
Round 19 Purl around.
Round 20 Knit around.
Round 21 Purl around.
Round 22 Repeat Row #16.
Round 23 Purl around.
Round 24 Knit around.
Round 25 Purl around.
Round 26 Knit around.
Rounds 27 & 28 Purl around.
Round 29 Repeat Row #12.
Round 30 Purl around.
Round 31 Knit around.
Round 32 Purl around.
Rounds 33 & 34 Knit around.

Begin Decreases for crown.


Change to US 6 needle (4.25 mm).

Round 1 *K2tog, K10* repeat around


Round 2 *K2tog, K9* repeat around
Round 3 *K2tog, K8* repeat around
Round 4 *K2tog, K7* repeat around
Round 5 *K2tog, K6* repeat around
Round 6 *K2tog, K5* repeat around
Round 7 *K2tog, K4* repeat around
Round 8 *K2tog, K3* repeat around
Round 9 *K2tog, K2* repeat around
Round 10 *K2tog, K1* repeat around
Round 11 *K2tog around. 8 stitches remain.

Cut yarn. Set aside remaining beads. Thread tail through remaining 8 stitches. Weave in ends.

Lightly steam block and manipulate beads to front of stitches, if needed.
