affect the tissues and organs of the oral cavity and its related structures.
Oral pathology is that part of pathology concerned with the scientific study of the
causes and effects of oral disease, an understanding of which is essential for
diagnosis and for the development of rational treatment and preventive programs
of oral diseases.

The aims of this course:

1. To develop an understanding of the causes and mechanisms of oral disease.

2. To develop skills of observation, interpretation, and integration needed to
analyze oral disease.
3. To determine the most likely diagnosis and explain the pathogenesis of the
disease.
4. To provide the opportunity to acquire advanced knowledge, foster critical
and impartial analysis of scientific and clinical information in oral
pathology.
5. To build on the student’s foundation in the basic and clinical sciences in
order to increase their understanding of oral disease processes and
management
6. To assess students over a range of knowledge, understanding and skills, and
to identify and support academic and clinical excellence.
Course Objectives and intending learning outcomes: (ILO’s)

1. Knowledge and understanding of the roles of other members of the

health care team in the execution of procedures involved in
achieving successful outcome in the diagnostic process.
2. Knowledge and understanding of the common laboratory methods
used to prepare oral diagnostic material for histopathological
examination and the main research tools and methods used to
advance the practice of diagnostic oral pathology
3. Critical awareness of current problems in oral pathology and
knowledge of the sources of up-to-date information on oral
pathological conditions
4. A high level of competence and judgment in the practical
microscopical diagnosis of common and significant oral
pathological lesions and conditions
5. The supplemental teaching resources allow additional exploration
within the field of oral pathology by way of thorough power point
modules, assessment questions and more.
6. To learn students not merely the pathology of oral disease but also
its clinical manifestations.
7. Clinicopathological correlation have been emphasized in this
course.
8. To learn students not merely the pathology of oral disease but also
its clinical manifestations and treatment of oral lesions.
9. Clinicopathological correlation have been emphasized in this
course.
10.In this course we have made a generous allowance of color pictures
which should make the recognition of histopathology material and
mucosal lesions considerably easier.
