I would like to thank our principal Dr. Narayan


Debnath sir, for giving us the opportunity to visit
the District and Sessions judge court,Jorhat.
I would also like to thank Dr. Jahidul Islam
sir,HOD,Forensic Medicine and Toxicology for
arranging and organizing this whole session and
becoming a source of encouragement for all of us.
At the end, I like to give special thanks to our
senior advocate Sri Jogesh bora sir, for giving us
his time and making us familiarized with the
court and its proceedings and sharing his
valuable knowledge with us.

INTRODUCTION

As a part of the syllabus of NCH we the students


of 2ndBHMS got an opportunity to visit the
District and Session Court, Jorhat under the
Department Of Forensic Medicine and
Toxicology.The Court Session was of 3 days and
we tried to cover all the topics that came under
the syllabus.So, under the guidance of Dr. Jahidul
Islam sir we had a 3 days court visit session.
Here is the whole report-
COURTVISITDAY-
1(18
08-2022)

On the first day we departed from our college at 10am and


reached the District and Sessions Judge court, Jorhat at 10:30
am along with our HOD,Dr.Jahidul Islam sir. There we met our
senior advocate Sri Jogesh Borah sir, He took us inside the
court and told us to maintain pin drop silence and to switch
off our phones. Inside the court we got the glimpse of the
judicial proceedings which included a case revolving
electricity dispute.
After the session got over he familiarized us with the interiors
of the Session Court then he took us outside and discussed
many sections of IPC . Here are few–
 POCSOACT 2002 which stands for protection of
children against sexual offences
 Sec.302 of IPC stands for Murder
 Sec.375 of IPC (for RAPE)
Then he took us to SDJM’s court , where the honorable
Judge, Sri Subarno Jyoti Deb, Provided us necessary
information on the roles of a Medical Officer in a
criminal case.
Then we Clicked some Photographs with our Advocate and
HOD sir and then headed back to our college.
COURTVISITDAY-2 (23/08/2022)

On the 2ndday of the session we reached the court at


11am and then along with our Advocate we entered the
court room and witnessed many cases that included
both Civil & Criminal Cases.
At first, we saw a Murder case trial going on, where an
eye witness standing on the witness box, was
explaining the incident to the court, he was followed by
2 other eye witnesses who were also present at the
crime scene. The accused was also their, during the
trial. The court recorded their statements.
afterwards we witnessed several other case trials,
then the court got adjourned for the day.
Then District and Session court Judge sri mridul kumar
kalita sir invited us to his Chamber, and we got a golden
opportunity to have a very knowledgeable and friendly
interaction with him.
Afterwards we went outside the court premises where our
advocate introduced us with Senior advocate Sri Sudipta
Nayan Goswami, who shared with us some valuable
information about the legal proceedings and the duty of a
Physicianin Medicolegal cases.
Then we headed back to our college with our HOD sir.

(24/08/2022)

On the final day of our court visit session we left


our college at 10AM and reached the court at
around 10:30 AM. Our advocate showed us the
administrative and management body of the
court, which is maintaining the basic amenities
and finance related to the court.
This fact was further elaborated to us by the
court manager Sri Pranjal Lahakar sir, who
informed us about every minute details which has
been taken care of, for the proper functioning
of court. i.e. Adequate chairs, tables,
microphones supply in the court. And how
maintain the proper decorum of the court.
At the end we meet sri Devojyoti Bhuyan sir, AJS,
DLSA who gave details about the JAIL SYSTEM
and cleared every query regarding Inquest
,Summon etc.
Then returned back to our college at 1:00 PM
This is how our court visit session come to an end.

CONCLUSION

Here was the report of our 3 days court visit


session. We are extremely glad to have got such
an opportunity to visit the district and sessions
judge court,Jorhat as a part of our syllabus.
Through this session we got an insight of all the
court proceedings, various laws and sessions of
IPC, role of a medical officer in the judiciary and
proper management of a court.
