5ASO Tenses - Deadlines Tue. 15 and Tue. 22 Nov.
Important remarks :
Make sure everything is already thoroughly read well before the deadlines. I will always give you
the opportunity to ask questions about these assignments in class. Write down the questions you
have for me. If no questions are asked, I assume everything is understood and everyone knows
exactly what I expect them to do/know/be able to do.
The numbering of the PDF-document ‘Grammar guide’ does not correspond with the numbering of
the actual grammar guide. The page numbers I refer to are the ones from the original document.
You can find all the documents you need to work on these assignments in the folder ‘TENSES’.
STUDY TIPS
Planning:
I am well aware that you have to process a lot of information independently (cf. self-reliance).
An effective and feasible workload planning will be crucial! Working on these assignments a little
bit each day, will be a lot more effective than ‘cramming’. Avoid cram sessions!
‘Cramming’ is essentially trying to stuff a load of information into your short-term memory in
time for an upcoming test or exam. This has been proven to increase stress levels, and can lead
to panic and anxiety, making it a lot harder to take in information.
Resources:
In the document ‘YouTube tutorials’, you can find a list of YouTube grammar tutorials on tenses. If
you struggle with a particular tense, or you just find it easier to study the information by watching
tutorials, click on the links. Combining different study methods may be your key to success.
In this document you will find very useful information to work on your other assignments.
Understanding the information in this document will enable you to learn more information faster.
So no ‘shortcuts’! Start with this document and then complete all assignments in the order in which
they are listed in this document.
Before you start studying the USE of the different tenses, you should be able to FORM (cf. formation
chart) and IDENTIFY them.
FORMATION:
You should be able to complete these tense charts ( > use online resources, Grammar guide, and/or
document ‘The tense system – Introduction’).
Use the verbs ‘to work’ and ‘to make’ as examples, but you should be able to complete tense charts
for other verbs as well.
IDENTIFYING:
You find examples in the document ‘The tense system – Introduction’ (p. 9).
