P.O.I
Arising out of my group’s topic “Abuse,” I chose the subtopic “Physical Abuse Against
Children.” This has become a prevalent issue in my country. As a student of English , this SBA
will assist in expanding my vocabulary, analysing and summary skills. My three artefacts are
two newspaper articles and a pictoral image via the internet.
ARTEFACT 1.
ARTEFACT 2.
ARTEFACT 3.
REFLECTION 1.
My first artefact is a newspaper article titled “Child Abuse Rampent.” This article depicted how
rampent this type of abuse in Trinidad, especially against children under the age of fifteen. I
learned that most of the perpetrators were from neighbous as well as family members.

My second artefact is another newpaper article titled “Childrens Authority.” The article speaks
to the thousands of children mostly under the age of seventeen are abused annually . I learned
that parents need to step up in protecting theirr children.

My third artefact is a poem “ Tears.” The poet speaks about the abuse he endures at the hands
of his mother. I learned that victims tend to endure pain in silence without letting anyone know .
REFLECTION 2.
In the newspaper article titled “Child Abuse Rampant” the newsreporter used statistics such as
“1,697 reports of abuse’ to highlight how many were abused. Words such as “horrors,”
“maltreatment” and “sexual abuse” were used to emphasize what the children forced daily.

In the second aretefact “Children’s Authority, the writer quoted from the Children’s Authority
over “35,000 cases of abuse were reported.” Emotive language was to implore the adults in
society to proctect the children

In the poem ‘’ Tears’” the poet used end rhymes to effectively capture the Physical Abuse faced
by the children. Words such as ‘blow by blow’’ “hitting me” and “ blood is all I taste” paints a
clear picture in the mind of the readers as to the physcial abuse faced.

REFLECTION 3.
This SBA has certainly helped me to become a better person. It opened my mind as to how
child abuse really affects children my age and younger. My oral and communication skills has
widened and increased my vocabulary skills. I learned the importance of team work and it
allowed me to become better at time management, which is something that was lacking prior to
this SBA..
Overall , I am grateful for this experience which this gave me and will definitely improve my
holistic development.
