X Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the
student and mostly practice based.

☐ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic

teacher facilitates the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.

Lesson idea implementation:

I will begin my lesson by inviting students to open Padlet on their devices to view the relevant Padlet
I created. Students will have the option to work with a partner if they prefer to or if they do not have
their device. I can either share my Padlet link with them or display the website link at the front of
the class. I will also display the learning target at the front of the class so that students stay engaged
and focused on their objectives in addition to understanding what is expected of them. Students will
complete the learning activities found in the Padlet independently or with a partner, however, I will
briefly discuss each step with my class. I will access students’ prior knowledge by asking what they
already know about Martin Luther King Jr., after providing them with a relevant fact. I am able to
provide real-world tasks to motivate my learners, which include the viewing of relevant videos and
the use of discussion boards for students to express their thoughts and communicate with their
peers. Student learning will be assessed within the platform Quizziz, in which students will answer
five, multiple choice review questions that align with the content and standard. I will conclude the
lesson with students summarizing their learning by providing the most important things they have
learned.
Managing student learning:
The Padlet used for this lesson allows students to move from passive to active social learners
through engaging and relevant online content in which they are encouraged to collaborate and
communicate with their peers. I will support this shift in behavior from my students by implementing
metacognition checks, so they are able to reflect on their learning. I am also able to implement quick
chat time so that my students can collaboratively activate their prior knowledge, and I can informally
gauge their initial knowledge of the content.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL):
The completion of my standard based learning activities supports the engagement component of the
UDL framework through the provision of multiple means of engagement, such as videos, discussion
boards, and student response tools. Additionally, the communication and collaboration that takes
place during the completion of these activities will foster engagement among students. Student
engagement is necessary within lesson and will increase their motivation to learn.
Reflective Practice:
I believe that Padlet will foster student learning in way that traditional tools could not because of its
extension to real world materials and ability to easily communicate with a large audience in real
time. Padlet is an efficient tool that allows students and teachers to share their thoughts,
documents, and/or media with each other, as well as respond to the comments of others. I look
forward to implementing my third learning activity in which students provide a question or comment
they would ask MLK is he was still here. This activity can foster curiosity and deep thinking in
students and give them a platform to apply their knowledge.
