INTERNATIONAL CENTRE FOR YOUTH DEVELOPMENT ON INFORMATION

COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY PROPOSED ICT PLAN

There’s nothing more rewarding than giving back and making a difference in the lives of people in our
society.

As individuals, we are all nurtured and raised in a society which plays a huge role in preparing us for the
life ahead.

One way ICYDICT gives back to society is by supporting organisations who are backing causes in youth
empowerment and poverty eradication especially through their Poverty Eradication Programme.(P.E.R)

ICYDICT is an NGO focused on bridging the gap between less privileged Nigerian Youth and Information
Communication Technology (ICT) opportunities. As part of its socio-economic development projects,
ICYDICT reaches out to students in tertiary institutions by providing them with knowledge useful for
developing an ICT-oriented entrepreneurial mindset.

ICYDICT SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND EMPOWERMENT IN RURAL AREAS

The idea is to bring technology to solve human problems provide skill education and training and access
to ICT & IEC materials in rural community settings. The project targets strategic initiatives that would
help to accelerate life skill education in the field of poverty eradication, youth economic empowerment,
human rights education, HEALTH awareness and control as well as grass root development in the
targeted 6 regions of Nigeria. Our mission is to use ICT in the rural communities to bridge the digital
divide, offer international standard ICT education, provide access to the information super-
highway, stimulate economic development as well as provide good forum for public health and human
rights information for development-a special scheme that leverages on the power of ICT .

ADDRESSING MAJOR PROBLEM WITH ICT

The problems of unemployment and poverty among youths (15 million) in the rural areas fuel youth
restiveness, cultism, militancy, gangsterism resulting in increasing level of insecurity, violence,
kidnapping and crime rate in the land. The demand for youth empowerment, employment creation and
life-skill education and training among youths is very high while access is relatively low. The youths are
prone to poverty when their economic, health, environmental, social or cultural rights are not respected
and protected. The wide margin of political, economic and social inequalities in the society influence
youths’ vulnerability to crime, drug abuse and other forms of vices. Inequalities of age, gender, sexuality,
poverty and social exclusion enhance young people’s vulnerability to armed robbery, prostitution,
substance abuse and child trafficking. This increasing economic marginalization and the need to depend
on alternative means of livelihood result into young girls taking up sex work at home and even abroad.
The program targets 50 schools and communities with a population of essentially 50,000 youths (1,000
per school and community) and 10,000 out of school youths with a total of 60,000 youths having access
to the internet and ICT education; 4,000 youths will be trained in System Engineering, Network
Administration, Database Management, and Financial Derivatives Trading, maintenance and internet
use; training in business methods SDCE aims to carry out effective youth economic empowerment and
self-employment & skills development promotion among youth in NIGERIA using ICTs.
