Dear Mr. Khattab,

After examination of the submitted documents, please find the observations that we can formulate at present within the scope of the mission
referenced here above.

Best regards,

The Engineer: A. MOUSSA The Manager: N. MOUSSA

Observations / Notes / Comments

1. In the case where the ‘WALLS’ load stands for all permanent dead loads (partition walls, tiles, etc.), you are kindly requested to clarify what
the 0.2 tonf/m2 dead load stands for.

2. Manual justification is requested for the strength of the drop beams supporting the implanted columns (DB10 and DB15 as examples).

3. Labels, cross-section reinforcement, and detail drawings for the implanted columns should be provided.

4. The annotated height on the retaining wall cross section drawing should be consistent with the elevation of the basement floor level.

5. The column at the intersection of axes Q and 4 is missing from drawing number 25, ‘plan of slab of mezz gr.’

Regarding the ETABS model:

6. No loads are applied to the mezzanine floor of block A.

7. The slab section 'TYPIC SLAB' assigned to the floors in the ETABS model has a unit selfweight of approximately 300 kg/m2, which is
significantly lighter than the actual weight of the ribbed slab shown in the structural drawings. This needs to be corrected, and the affected
elements must be revised.

8. The dimensions of the structural elements in the model should be consistent with the drawings. For instance, there are no 100x40 columns
in the drawings, but there are in the model.

9. The columns should be moment-end released unless clarified otherwise, since they are not part of the lateral force-resisting system. The
shear walls alone should be resisting the lateral forces, unless the columns are part of a moment frame.

10. The value of 6.5 for the Overstrength Factor R does not correspond to a shear wall system.

11. A minimum diaphragm eccentricity of 5% should be applied in the response spectrum load cases SPEX and SPEY.

12. You are kindly requested to determine the minimum 28-day cylinder compressive strength of the concrete that is to be used, as well as the
minimum yield stress of the steel reinforcement.
The used concrete material is labeled ‘FCU=350’ but has a compressive strength of 41.35 MPa, or 4217 T/m2. To be kindly rectified or
clarified.
Also, the modulus of elasticity of the concrete material should be equal to: Ec (T/m2 ) = 47463√fc′ (T/m2 )

13. The stiffness modifiers should be applied as described in our previously sent review (reference: Ghazieh3396/AM/LPS/40).
14. Allowable stress combinations need not be increased by 10%, and the strength combinations should include the vertical component of
seismic ground motion being equal to 0.5CaID.

Below are the UBC 97 combinations that should be used:

Strength Combinations - UBC 97 Section 1612.2.1 Allowable Stress Combinations - UBC 97 Section 1612.3.1
1.4 D 1.0 D
1.2 D + 1.6 L 1.0 D + 1.0 L
1.1 × (1.2 D + 1.0 RS + 𝑓1 L + 0.5 CaI D) (8 combs) 1.0 D + RS/1.4 (8 combs)
1.1 × (0.9 D + 1.0 RS + 0.5 CaI D) (8 combs) 0.9 D + RS/1.4 (8 combs)
1.1 × (0.9 D + 1.0 RS – 0.5 CaI D) (8 combs) 1.0 D + 0.75 × (RS/1.4 + 1.0 L) (8 combs)
