A. ACTIVATION OF PRIOR KNOWLEDGE


DIRECTION: Define the following terms. (Annex A)

1.) Paradigm- is an anchored on the principle that the way to obtain peace and development is
though peace, hence the paradigm is constructed using the same word. PEACE
2.) MODEL- is a physical verbal, or a graphical representation that simples a computer or idea. A
system or thing used as an example to follow or irritate.
3.) MODERNIZATION- the process of adapting something to modern needs or habits, modernization
in sociology, the transformation from a traditional, rural agrarian society to a secular urban
industrial society.

SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT:

1.) How a peace paradigm differ from Modernization Paradigm? Present example. (10 points)

The peace paradigm presents an alternative way of working for or viewing peace for
development. In more ways the paradigm contradicts the means through which development is
pursued under the modernization paradigm. Peace paradigm, is an alternative model of
development suitable for countries in south, the paradigm premium on human development.

Modernization Paradigm may be describe as a Western model of development that emphasizes


the use of the environmental and reliance on Western technology to achieve development.

2.) How does these five approaches to peace affects peace and development? Discuss each
approaches and its contribution. (20 points)

Taken together, these five paradigms – power politics world, conflict resolution nonviolence,
and transformation- attest that the paths to peace. The five approaches help to achieve the
peace development that we want, PEACE is a pre-requisite for development as a whole because
it creates an enabling environment for the fundamentals of a society progress human capital
formation, infrastructure development. Markets subjects to the rule of law, and so on
POWER POLITICS: PEACE THROUGH COERCIVE POWER - The first peace paradigm power politics or
“real poltik” is the traditionally dominant framework in the field of international relations. Justice is
define as an absence of gross abuses of human rights, such as genocide, and peace is conceptualized
simply as an absence of war.

WORLD ORDER: PEAECE THROUGH THE POWER OF LAW – This paradigm which views the “order”
created by practices of power politics as a form of disorder, proposes that sustained cooperation among
states and other significant actors, such as nongovernmental organization and intergovernmental
organization, is both necessary.

CONFLICT RESOLUTION: PEACE THROUGH THE POWER OF COMMUNICATION – The third paradigm,
conflict resolution, offers a highly pragmatic approach to peace through the development and
refinement of skills for analyzing conflicts and responding to them with effective strategies of
communication and negotiation.

NONVIOLENCE: PEACE THROUGH WILLPOWER – One of the most common misconception about the
fourth approach to peace, nonviolence is an that it is a paradigm that enjoins passivity. From the
standpoint of nonviolence activists, this with the ability to hurt and therefore regard it as the exclusive
possession of governments and armed militant groups, in response, the nonviolence paradigm.

TRANSFROMATION; PEACE THROUGH THE POWER OF LOVE - The final approach to peacemaking
investigated in the peace paradigm course is the transformation paradigm, paradigm that focuses on the
centrality of education, cultural change and spiritual in all genuine attempts to make peace in reality.

3.) Discuss the importance of peace paradigm in a peace and development (20 points)
