- During the Chandigarh Mayor election in February

papers of 8 councilors.

- This misconduct was recorded on CCTV cameras.
- The matter reached the media, after which the joint
candidates of AAP and Congress filed a petition in the
Supreme Court.
- Then the Supreme Court intervened in this matter
and delivered a verdict.
Article 142:
- Article 142 comes under Part 5 (The Union) Chapter
4 (The Union Judiciary) of the Indian Constitution.
- This article gives the Supreme Court the special
power to provide 'complete justice'.
- Under this, if other laws do not apply in a case, then
the court's decision will be considered paramount.
- This article is divided into two parts.
- Article 142 (1) and Article 142 (2)
- Article 142 (1) gives the Supreme Court the authority
to issue separate orders by removing from the existing
law if complete justice cannot be done by the existing
law in a case.
- This order will remain in force until the government or
parliament does not provide any specific provision
regarding the matter.
- Article 142 (2) gives the Supreme Court the right to
summon a person, demand documents, and
investigate the case of the guilty.
- It also gives the right to punish the guilty.
