Physical Conditioning Assessment – Health & High Performance

At the PCC, we want to ensure that we are facilitating the best environment to educate and enable
you to achieve your goals without the interruption that injury causes. Traditionally, this has not
been done very well, unless a player is in a pathway or state set up.

Ultimately, 'your best ability.....is your availability'!

With this in mind, we have researched and spoken to many people on best practice, and
available options and assessments, that can create a 'physical baseline' for you to work from and
assist with your development.

Going forward, we will be aiming to introduce experts in their field - that understand cricket - to help
establish an exceptional standard around how we achieve all of this.

It will allow you to have professional assessments, treatments and planning put in place for your
body, to identify strengths, possible weaknesses, provide early education, and detection and
prevention (where possible) of any injuries.

This will then provide a basis for you to understand your personal situation, and have
tailored/specific exercises or programs put in place to help you form great habits that ultimately
become a part of your routine, warm-ups, recovery etc.

Whilst some of you may see a physio or similar, there is often a lack of understanding of the
demands cricket has on the body; particularly for bowlers.

As a first step, we are pleased to introduce Dr Luke Nelson - Sports & Exercise Chiropractor -
Director @ Health & High Performance. https://www.healthhp.com.au/meet-the-team

Luke is a highly regarded physician with a background in working with elite runners and a track
record of assisting many first class and international cricketers.

Luke can quickly and easily perform a range of performance and screening examinations that will
help to:

1. Determine if a player has sufficient strength & capacity to perform at their best.
2. Assess any imbalances (most are stronger on one side) which can impact performance and
cause injury.
3. Detect and potentially mitigate any early signs of injuries that could lead to bigger
problems.
4. Ensure that any past injuries have been properly rehabilitated to avoid recurrence.
5. Advise on a course of action to improve

He uses a combination of assessments to formulate a personal profile utilizing a testing system

called the AxIT system which you can read more about here: https://www.healthhp.com.au/the-
axit-system

There are two types of testing. The first is focused on the hips, back, and core (which forms the basis
for alignment and strength in the lower body) as well as shoulders which is a shorter session (25-
30mins).
The longer assessment is recommended which includes examining the legs (quads & calves and
plyometric ability) which would take 45 mins in total.

This then generates a report which can be used to generate a development or rehabilitation
program specifically designed to meet your needs.

The proposed assessments may be able to be done during the day at Lukes rooms, or after hours by
appointment.

Luke would usually charge $220 for these assessments, but for PCC Members, we have a special
offer - $50 for 30min assessment or $75 for a 45min assessment (which would include the additional
tests in the legs).

This fee would also be eligible for private health insurance rebates for those with private health
insurance.

Whilst this is available to all PCC Members, we encourage all bowlers to invest a small amount of
time and money in having this done for yourself.
