Flow Rate Lab

Objective: To find the relation between flow rate, velocity and radius of faucet.

Procedure:
1. Click on the link below to open the work.
Flow Rate Lab (thephysicsaviary.com)
2. Set the exit speed to 0.5m/s.
3. Select faucet radius of 8mm.
4. Click on start and allow the water to flow from the faucet to a height of 1 meter. Take
notice of the time it took the water to reach that height.
5. Find the volume of water. Hence, calculate the volume flow rate.
6. Maintain the exit speed of 0.5m/s and repeat procedure 3 to 5 with five different faucet
radii.
7. Plot a graph of volume flow rate against radius.
8. Comment on the relationship between the volume flow rate and radius from the graphs.
9. Calculate the faucet area for each radius. Hence, plot a graph of the volume flow rate
against faucet area.
10. From the graph, what is the relationship between volume flow rate and area?
11. By observation, what is the relationship between flow rate and velocity?
12. Give 3 practical applications of this experiment.
