A Narrative Report on the NLC Implementation
Learning is a three—ways process. Going up, Growing up and Building Up. Teachers and
leamers must take a step to enhance what has been leamed and unveil what are yet to be learned.
The Department of Education through DO No. 14,s.2023 adopts the implementation of the
National Learning Camp to close the learning gaps caused by pandemic and also to strongly support
to the Dep.Ed MATATAG agenda. Teacher-volunteers were encouraged to provide enjoyable and
meaningful activities to their learners to sustain their eagerness to learn during the 3 weeks classes
for Enhancement camps and 5 weeks classes for Intervention camps. This initiative was quite a
challenge because educators needed to plan on how to balance leamers’ enjoyment with the
knowledge and skills they may get from varied group-oriented activities.
But behind those challenges, it was proven once more that teachers are living heroes indeed,
for choosing to be learning camp volunteers despite their desire to take their vacations and stay
relaxed away from school. Asuncion Elementary School accepted the challenge and had moved the
hearts of the 6 teacher-volunteers as camp facilitators. A kick-off program was held on the first day
of its implementation. It was attended by the learners, parents and other stakeholders and we were
delighted that there were people who pledged to extend their support by preparing free snacks for
our campers. We sincerely appreciate the gesture for we understood how beneficial it is for our
campers. It was really a big thing already for we felt that they are one with us in our endeavors.
Teachers, as instructed gave engaging activities along with fun-filled games. Those activities
further strengthened the bond between the learners and their teachers and they had evidently
developed their self-confidence. Through their active participation, they had expressed themselves
and became more open to their peers. Unknowingly, while teaching them the basic knowledge, we
were also teaching them lifelong skills.
After the 5 week-long classes, minds and stomachs were fed, we expected a positive growth in
the learning capability of our learners. Teacher-volunteers conducted an inter-camp assessment
and were overjoyed because with that short-span, they had acquired the essential learnings that we
wished to instill in them. It's just right to recognize their efforts and perseverance by giving them
awards and rewards. These were realized on the school-initiated Leaming Camp Culmination
Program which was held last August 25,2023. All learners received their certificates of completion.
Learners with complete attendance were rewarded with free school supplies by our Master Teacher,
ma'am Jennifer R. Camino. While in the afternoon, several games were held and all learners got
their prizes.
The whole learning camp journey did not just impact the learners, but more the teachers. Being
an instrument in molding young leamers’ futures beyond normal school setting is a satisfying and
glorifying experience. We are hoping that more and more teachers will find in them extra dedication
to the service and innate love and concer to their learners.
