Module 4: The Temptation and Baptism of Jesus
Instruction: Read the given Bible references to the birth of Christ, understand, and fill in
the blanks. (20 points)
Read Matthew 1:18-25.
Event 1: Gabriel delivered the birth announcement to _Mary_ in _Nazareth_
(see Luke 1:26-38).
Event 2: Mary hurried to her relatives in the hill country of _the town in Judah_. She
remained there for “about three months” and then returned to Nazareth (see
Luke 1:39-56).
Event 3: An angel delivered the birth announcement through a _dream___to
_Joseph____ in Nazareth (see Matt. 1:18-23). Consider the profound
significance of the title Emmanuel. The Greek Emmanuel is transliterated from
the Hebrew Immanu’el. El means God. The rest of the word means “with us”.
Literally, the term means _”God with us”_.
Event 4: Joseph took Mary home as his _wife___. They remained a short time in
Nazareth (see Matt. 1:24; Luke 2:4).
Event 5: Joseph and Mary _went__to _Bethlehem_to register (see Luke 2:6-7).
Bethlehem means “House of bread”
Event 6: The angel proclaimed the birth of Christ to the _shepherds_ in a field near
Bethlehem (see Luke 2:8-14).
Event 7: The shepherds hurried to find Mary, Joseph, and the _baby wrapped with

Event 11: Joseph and Mary took Jesus and _flee__to _Egypt .
Read Matthew 2:19-23.
Event 12: Herod died and Joseph and Mary returned to Nazareth where Christ grew
and become strong, he was filled with _wisdom_ and the _favour_ of God was
on him. (Luke 2:40).
