1.0 Brief Introduction :- A strain gauge is a sensor used to measure strain (deformation) on
an object. In weight measurement on simple platforms, strain gauges are typically bonded
to a rigid structure beneath the platform. As weight is applied to the platform, it deforms
slightly, causing the strain gauge to also deform, altering its electrical resistance. This
change in resistance is proportional to the weight applied, allowing for accurate weight
measurement.

INTRODUCTION OF ABSOLUTE COORDINATE SYSTEM &
RELATIVE COORDINATE SYSTEM

Absolute Coordinate System:

In an absolute coordinate system, positions are defined with respect to a fixed

reference point or origin. This origin serves as the starting point for measuring
distances along each axis. Each point in space has a unique set of coordinates,
typically expressed as (x, y, z) in three-dimensional space. Absolute coordinates
remain constant regardless of any transformations or changes in the system.

Relative Coordinate System:

In contrast, a relative coordinate system defines positions relative to another

point or object within the same coordinate system. Instead of using a fixed origin,
positions are described in terms of their displacement or distance from a
reference point. For example, in a CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software, a point
might be defined relative to another point, line, or surface. Relative coordinates
are often more flexible and convenient for describing positions within a dynamic
or changing environment.
ABSOLUTE COORDINATE ENTRY

Absolute coordinate entry is the default. Absolute coordinate entry always counts
from the origin. When drawing lines, AutoCAD is ready to place the next vertex
wherever you tell it to go:

1. Type L on the command line and press enter

2. Type 4,6 on the command line and press enter
3. Type 5,3 on the command line and press enter
4. Press enter to finish the Line command
We just told AutoCAD we wanted a line starting at 4,6, and ending at 5,3. It made a
segment between those two points. The first point is 4 to the right and 6 up from the
origin. The second point is 5 to the right and 3 up from the origin. The line is the
shortest distance between those two points.

Absolute coordinate entry involves specifying the exact coordinates of a point in

relation to a fixed reference point or origin. This reference point serves as the
starting point for measurement along each axis. In a two-dimensional Cartesian
coordinate system, absolute coordinates are typically expressed as (x, y), where 'x'
represents the horizontal position and 'y' represents the vertical position. In three-
dimensional space, coordinates are represented as (x, y, z), with 'z' representing the
depth or height. To enter absolute coordinates, simply provide the numerical values
for each axis, ensuring accuracy according to the chosen coordinate system.
RELATIVE COORDINATE ENTRY

For relative coordinates, AutoCAD does not count from 0,0. Instead, the
reference point is the previous point in the drawing. Let’s draw another line, and
see what it looks like compared to the old one:
1. Type L on the command line and press enter
2. Type 4,6 on the command line and press enter
3. Type @5,3 on the command line and press enter
4. Press enter to finish the line command
AutoCAD recognizes the @ symbol as instructions to count using relative
coordinates.
Notice the difference. While both lines made thus far started at the same point, this
time, for the second vertex, AutoCAD counted 5 over and 3 up from the first vertex,
and made the line between those two locales.

Relative coordinate entry refers to specifying coordinates based on a

reference point rather than absolute values. For example, instead of saying
"go to position (10, 20)", you might say "move 5 units to the right and 10 units up
from the current position." This method is often used in programming, graphics,
and navigation systems.
ADVANTAGE & DISADVANTAGE

Advantages of Absolute Coordinate System:

Precision: Absolute coordinates provide precise locations, which can be crucial in

applications where accuracy is paramount, such as engineering design or mapping.

Consistency: Absolute coordinates ensure consistency in positioning regardless of

the starting point, making them reliable for tasks requiring fixed reference points.

Ease of Communication: Absolute coordinates are easy to communicate and

understand, as they directly specify a location relative to a known origin.

Disadvantages of Absolute Coordinate System:

Rigidity: Absolute coordinates can be rigid and less adaptable to changes in

reference points or environments, making them less suitable for dynamic systems or
scenarios where flexibility is required.

Dependency on Origin: Absolute coordinates are heavily dependent on a fixed

origin, which can be a limitation in scenarios where the origin is uncertain or subject
to change.

Complexity: Managing absolute coordinates across large scales or complex

geometries can become cumbersome and may require extensive computational
resources.
Advantages of Relative Coordinate System:

Flexibility: Relative coordinates offer flexibility by specifying positions relative to a

current point, making them adaptable to changes in orientation or reference frame.

Simplicity: Relative coordinates are often simpler to work with, especially in dynamic
environments or when dealing with iterative processes where the starting point may
vary.

Efficiency: Using relative coordinates can lead to more efficient coding and
computations, particularly in scenarios where movements or transformations are
repetitive or incremental.

Disadvantages of Relative Coordinate System:

Cumulative Errors: Relative coordinates can accumulate errors over multiple

iterations, leading to inaccuracies in positioning if not managed carefully.

Dependency on Context: Relative coordinates rely heavily on the context of the

current position, which can make it challenging to communicate precise locations
without a clear reference point.

Complexity in Transformation: Transforming between different relative coordinate

systems or converting to absolute coordinates can introduce complexities,
particularly in scenarios involving rotations or scaling.
APPLICATION

An absolute coordinate system is used to specify the exact position of a point in

space relative to a fixed reference point or origin, such as Cartesian coordinates
(x, y, z). It's commonly used in mathematics, computer graphics, engineering,
and geography.

A relative coordinate system, on the other hand, specifies the position of a point
relative to another point or a series of points, rather than a fixed origin. It's useful
when you need to describe the position of an object or point in relation to another
object or point, such as in CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software or when giving
directions.

For example, in CAD software, you might use absolute coordinates to place objects
precisely within a design, while relative coordinates could be used to move objects
relative to their current position. Similarly, in navigation, absolute coordinates could
pinpoint a location on a map, while relative coordinates could describe how to get
from one location to another based on landmarks or distances traveled.
CONCLUISION

Absolute Coordinate System: It defines positions based on fixed reference points or

axes, such as the origin (0,0) on a graph. This system provides precise and
unambiguous location information.

Relative Coordinate System: It defines positions relative to a specific point, object,

or frame of reference. It is useful for describing positions within a localized context,
such as in transformations or relative distances.

Each system has its advantages and applications depending on the context and
requirements of the problem at hand. While absolute coordinates offer precision
and consistency, relative coordinates offer flexibility and ease of understanding in
certain situations. Ultimately, the choice between them depends on the specific
needs of the task or application.
