C. Motivation
I have here a figure that will help you
formulate the definition of a polygon.
I will show you some examples on the
screen.
Class take a look at figure on the board( The students study the figure

and study about it.

The following are example of polygons

Example

Lesson 2: Angles of a Polygon

Property 1.
The sum of the measures of the the angles
of a convex quadrilateral in 360°. We have
m∠1 + m∠2 + m∠3 +m∠4 = 360°
Example 1: Angels of a Quadrilateral
Find the measure of:

A. ∠E in the figure on the right

Solution:
A. m∠A + m∠N + m∠T +m∠E =
360°
105° + 92° + 71° + m∠E = 360°
268°+m∠E = 360°
m∠E = 92°

B. Each interior angle in NEAT if

themeasure of each consecutive angle
is a consecutive multiple of x.

B. Let x= measure of ∠N.

2x= measure of ∠E.
3x= measure of ∠A.
4x= measure of ∠T. x + 2x
+ 3x +4x= 360°
10x = 360°
x= 36° Use the value of x
find the measure of each
angle. Thus, m∠N=36°,
m∠E=2(36°)=72°,m∠A=3
lOMoARcPSD|34768894

(36°)=108°, and
m∠T=4(36°)= 144°

Property 2: Polygon Interior Angle Sum

The sum of the measures of the angles of a

convex polygon with n sides is (n - 2)180°.
hence, we have m∠1 + m∠2 +… +m∠n
= (n - 2)180°.

Example 2: Polygon Interior Angle Sum

Find the measures of ∠A in the diagram.

Solution:
The polygon has five sides, so the sum of
the measures of the interior angles is : (n-
2)180°= (5-2)180° = 3 (180°)= 540° Add
the measures of the given interior angles
and set the sum equal to 540°

m∠A +105°+102° + 75° + 90°= 540°

m ∠A +372°= 540°
m∠A= 168°

Lesson 3: Sides of a Polygon

Aside from classifying polygons as convex

or concave, polygons can also be
categorized based on the number of sides.
Each of the following polygons is named
according to the number of its sides.

What is triangle?
A triangle is a polygon with three sides. The primary parts of a triangle are its three
sides and three angles. In the figure on the right, the three sides are AB , BC and
lOMoARcPSD|34768894

CA. Aside from the line segments a

lower case letter can be used to name
each side of a triangle such as a, b and
(kindly read Ms./Mr._______
) c in the figure. An angle of a triangle
is named by one of its three vertices
such as ∠A, ∠B and ∠C. We can also
use the three vertices of a triangle ;
∠A, ∠B and ∠C can be renamed
∠BAC, ∠ABC and ∠ACB
respectively .

Example 3: Refer to the triangle on the

right to answer the following.

A. Name the sides in two ways

B. Name the angles in two sides

Solutions:
A. XY, YZ, and XZ ; x,y and z
B.∠X,∠ Y, and∠Z; ∠
YXZ,∠ XYZ,
and ∠XZY.

E. Application

F. Generalization
I can see that you have learned a lot
today.
Now, answer the following questions
below.
1. What is polygon? Differentiate
between convex and concave
polygons.
2. Complete the different names
of polygons and give the number
of sides.
3. What are the classifications of
triangles according to sides and

angles?

G. Valuing

IV. Evaluation
1. What do you call of the two sides of a polygon that share a common endpoint?
2. What is the sum of the measures of the angles of a convex polygon with n sides?
3. What is the longest side in a right triangle?
4. What do you call a 10 sided polygon?
5. What is the name for a five-sided polygon?

V. Assignment
Observe your surroundings at home. List down the things that represents polygons
including the number of sides. Draw it in a short bond paper.
