Introduction
This equipment is designed as per ASME section VIII-Division-1, Ed. 2019, however the set of nozzle B01
are checked using design by analysis approach as per ASME sec VIII Div-2, part-5 using FE analysis
method.
Detailed description of Finite element model along with dimensions, thicknesses, boundary Conditions,
element type considered etc. is given in respective load case chapter.
The analysis was carried out using ANSYS Release 19.1 software.
Assumptions
• The FE analysis is performed based on linear elastic behavior of the components.
• Additional loading excluded from scope not considered (wind, cyclic, etc.) as specified on
drawing.
• Any specific requirement, over and above code requirement is excluded.

SOLID 186
Element Description:
SOLID186 is a higher order 3-D 20-node solid element that exhibits quadratic displacement behavior.
The element is defined by 20 nodes having three degrees of freedom per node: translations in the nodal
x, y, and z directions. The element supports plasticity, hyperelasticity, creep, stress stiffening, large
deflection, and large strain capabilities. It also has mixed formulation capability for simulating
deformations of nearly incompressible elastoplastic materials, and fully incompressible hyperelastic
materials.

Grid Independence (Mesh Sensitivity Study)
The model is analyzed with appropriate boundary conditions and loads to study the convergence
pattern with respect to the element size. Appropriate boundary condition is applied on the model
and Finite Element Analysis is carried out for varying element size.
Sr. No 3 and 2 are having marginal difference between the stress results. Hence mesh with serial
number 3 is considered for analysis.

Conclusion
Stresses induced in set of nozzle B01 are within allowable limit as per criteria specified in Part 5
methods of ASME SEC VIII DIV 2 Edition 2019 for given considerations and assumptions made in this
report.
