General Raymond Courier™ Implementation Guide

General
This document contains instructions for the implementation of Raymond Courier Model 3010 pallet
trucks, Model 3020/3220 tow tractors, and Model 3030 stacker trucks in a customer facility.

Implementation procedures must be performed under the supervision of a Raymond Certified

Application Engineer.

Safety
Do not operate, work on, or train the Raymond Courier unless you are trained and authorized to do
so, and you have read the Owner Manual, the Operator Manual, and the Route Management
Manual. Refer to Section 2 of the Raymond Courier Maintenance Manual for detailed safety
guidelines.

Do not operate the Raymond Courier in Automatic mode in areas with

pedestrians unless pedestrian training has been completed. In addition, do not
allow pedestrians into areas where automated trucks operate unless they have
completed pedestrian training.

Prerequisites
The Implementation Manual is intended to assist in the integration of the installed Raymond
Courier truck in the Customer’s material handling system. It assumes the Raymond Courier has
been installed using the Installation Guide and the site has already been surveyed and approved.

Raymond Courier™ Implementation Guide Pre-Implementation Tasks

Pre-Implementation Tasks
Certain requirements must be completed prior to implementation to have a successful
implementation. These requirements include:
• Schedule a presentation of the “ANSI/ITSDF B56.5 Considerations for the Warehouse /
Facility Owner” and give a copy to the customer.
• Determine the number of participants for “Steps to Safety” and “Safety on the Move” training
and prepare the training material accordingly.
• Schedule a Trainer.
• Prepare the Draft Facility Route Map with sufficient detail to train all routes and allow the
Facility manager to mark the Routes, Hazard Zones, and Restricted Areas.
• Verify the Site Survey is complete and represents the current state of the warehouse.
• In cases where the customer must make facility modifications or has other deliverables to
complete prior to installation or implementation, schedule follow-up meetings in the weeks
prior to delivery to ensure the site is ready. Schedule a pre-installation on-site meeting if
needed.
• Make sure computer hardware and Wi-Fi coverage are appropriate for Supervisor installation.

Route Training
• Review the Facility Route Map and all detailed aisle, drop, Hazard Zones, and Restricted Area
dimensions with the customer to obtain buy-in before training routes.
• Have the customer turn ON all lights in all areas where training will take place and disable the
motion detection feature (if present) during the route training process
• Program all Routes as indicated on the Facility Route Map. Program all Intersections and
Rules in Supervisor. Follow the instructions in the Route Management Manual for creating
Routes and programming Behaviors, Intersections, and Rules.
• Intersections must be programmed in order to use reverse motion. Intersections require
connection to Supervisor.
• Considerations for Raymond Courier models equipped with dynamic speed reduction and stop
fields:
• The stop field will be the shortest distance from the Raymond Courier when the Raymond
Courier is traveling less than 1 mph (0.45 m/s).
• Travel in reverse is limited to 0.67 mph (0.3 m/s), therefore will always emit the shortest
stop field.
• Train Routes traveling forward at 0.9 mph (0.4 m/s) to get the shortest stop field. The light
curtain must be raised (via Uneven Floor Zones) because it extends out beyond the short
stop field range.
• Once all Routes and Behaviors are trained, perform a “Build Routes” as instructed in the
Route Management Manual.
NOTE: Do not turn off the Raymond Courier during the route building process.

Route Validation Raymond Courier™ Implementation Guide

Route Validation
Once the Build process is complete, validate that the Raymond Courier correctly follows all Routes
and performs all Behaviors as indicated on the Facility Route Map.
• Review the Nodal Maps following the instructions in the Route Management Manual to make
sure they match the Facility Route Map including all behaviors.
• Follow the instructions in the Route Management Manual for verifying Routes, Intersections,
and Rules.
• Make note of any location found that is less than 26 inches from any point on the Raymond
Courier (including the load) to any obstructions. Either retrain to increase clearance or restrict
speed. If increased clearance is not possible, mark these areas as Hazard Zones on the Facility
Route Map if there is a pedestrian escape route, or as a Restricted Area if there is not a
pedestrian escape route.
• If more than one Raymond Courier is being installed, transfer the validated Routes only to
other Raymond Courier models of the same configuration. Repeat the entire Route verification
process for each additional Raymond Courier installed.
• Considerations for Raymond Courier models equipped with reverse motion:
• Any area that includes Reverse motion is considered a Restricted Area.
• Travel in reverse is limited to 0.67 mph (0.3 m/s).
• The Raymond Courier does not sense whether the pick-up or drop-off zone is already
occupied. Avoid sending the Raymond Courier to an occupied slot.
• Make all necessary notations to update the Facility Route Map with any additional Routes,
Behaviors, Restricted Areas, or Hazard Zones.

Raymond Courier™ Implementation Guide Final Implementation Tasks

Final Implementation Tasks

• Record the hour meter values on the Raymond Courier Implementation Report Form
(P/N 1192628).
• Back-up Route Training on a USB Drive. The Solutions and Support Center should keep a
copy of the route training and provide a second copy to the customer.
• Copy the Nodal Maps following the instructions in the Route Management Manual.
• Take snap images for each Raymond Courier following the instructions in the Maintenance
Manual.

Live Product Test

• Perform live production runs. Make sure to run each Route at least once with a variety of loads
(lightest, heaviest, tallest, widest, and so forth).
• Model 3010 and 3030: Pallets must be in good shape – pallets with broken boards, missing
blocks, loose nails, or any other defects which affect the load bearing capacity of the pallet,
should not be used.
• Model 3010: Pallets must have a minimum fork pocket opening of 3.5 inches when fully
loaded.
• Model 3010: Palletized loads must weigh at least 500 pounds if bottom deck boards are
used.
• Model 3020 and 3220: Run with the applicable cart combinations. Include maximum
number of carts and widest loads.
• Model 3030: Load must be centered.
• Model 3030: Never double stack pallets with this Raymond Courier.
