NARRATIVE REPORT
BRIGADA PAGBASA

Persuant to DepEd Memorandum No. 173, s. 2019, titled “Hamon: Bawat


Bata Bumabasa (3Bs Initiatives)”, the English Department conducted the
“Brigada Pagbasa” (BP), is an after-school reading remediation program in
response to the call of the Department to intensify advocacy for reading.

With the program, teachers conducted an orientation to parents and students


about the program. The orientation for students held on the first day of classes while
orientation for parents held on the first HRPTA meeting. In this program, not only
the language teachers were involved, language teachers ask the participation of all
the teachers in Luakan National High School-Annex. All teachers in the school were
also oriented for the upcoming reading assessment of Grades 7-10 students.

Language teachers decided to adapt the procedures in Phil-Iri. The first step
is the conduct of the Group Screening Test both English and Filipino. This was
administered by the English and Filipino teachers during their class hours. The result
of the GST will determine who among of the students will undergo to next step
which is the Phil-Iri Graded Passage Pretest.

Last September 8-9, 2022, all the language teachers as well as the advisers in
Luakan National High School-Annex conducted the Reading Assessment through
Phil-Iri both English and Filipino. This will determine the Reading level of the
students. The identified struggling readers will undergo the reading program of the
school.

To continue whole year-round program of the National Brigada Pagbasa,


Luakan National High School-Annex strengthen the implementation of School
Reading Program entitled “PROJECT REAL” (Reading Enhancement for Learners
Achieving Literacy).
