-Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) occurs when stomach acid repeatedly


flows back into the tube connecting your mouth and stomach (esophagus). This
backwash (acid reflux) can irritate the lining of your esophagus. Many people
experience acid reflux from time to time.

Causes of GERD
-It is caused by gastric acid flowing from your stomach back up into your food
pipe (esophagus)

The effect of GERD on the digestive system


-GERD can irritate the food pipe and cause heart-burn and other symptoms

Symptoms of GERD
-A burning sensation in your chest (heartburn), usually after eating, which
might be worse at night or while lying down. Backwash of food or sour liquid.
Upper abdominal or chest pain.
-Trouble swallowing

How can GERD be diagnosed

-Barium-oesophagus is one of the most common procedures to test for GERD which is a contrast-
enhanced radiographic study commonly used to assess structural characteristics of
the entire esophagus.

-Relief from life style changes and over the counter medication is temporary

-Stronger medication is required

Try to:-
-Maintain healthy weight
-Stop smoking
-Elevate the head of your bed
-Eat food slowly and don’t chew roughly
-Avoid foods and drinks that trigger reflux

-High fibered foods
-Aikline foods
-Watery foods
-Milk
-Ginger
-Apple cider vinegar
-Lemon water
