4as Semi-detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics (Grade 9)

I. Objectives

At the end of the lesson, the learners can:

a. Determine the conditions that make a quadrilateral a parallelogram,

b. Uses properties to find measures of angles, sides and other
quantities involving parallelograms,
c. Appreciate the lesson by citing examples of quadrilaterals through
real-life objects they see every day, and
d. Solve real life situations using properties of parallelogram.

2. Analysis
 What have you noticed in our activity?
 What quadrilateral have we used?
 How do we solve for the angles, sides and measurements?
 What are the properties of parallelogram?
3. Abstraction

How to determine the conditions that make a quadrilateral a

parallelogram
Condition 1: A quadrilateral is a parallelogram if both pairs of opposite
sides are congruent.
Condition 2: A quadrilateral is a parallelogram if both pairs of opposite
angles are congruent.
Condition 3: A quadrilateral is a parallelogram if any pair of consecutive
angles are supplementary.
Condition 4: A quadrilateral is a parallelogram if the diagonals bisect
each other.
Condition 5: A quadrilateral is a parallelogram if each diagonal divides
the parallelogram into two congruent triangles.

If one angle measure is given, the measure of the other angles can be
determined because of these properties of parallelogram on angles:

 Opposite angles are congruent. The degree measures are equal.

 Consecutive angles are supplementary. The sum of their measures is
180°.
 Also remember that the interior angles of a quadrilateral, including a
parallelogram, have a sum of 360°.

Example:

 A given measure of one angle is 60°.

 Its opposite angle is also 60°.
 The other two angles are 120° each.
 The sum of the measure of angles is 360° ⇒ (2×60) + (2×120)

If the length and width of each side are given, their opposite sides length can be
determined as well.

The property applied is:

 The two pairs of opposite sides of parallelogram are congruent and
parallel.

Example:

 A given length is 45 cm. Its opposite length is also 45 cm.

 A given width is 30 cm. Its opposite width is also 30 cm.

If the measures of length and width are given, the diagonals of the
parallelogram can be determined.
