STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES OF WATER QUALITY ANALSIS

1.0 OBJECTIVE:
To lay down an accurate and consistent procedure for analysis of water samples in an industrial setting to
ensure compliance with reguratory requirements and maintain the quality of water used in various
industrial purposes.

2.0 SCOPE:
This standard operating procedure is applicable to testing of all types of water, all sampling points of
the water system and all personnel involved in each step of the water analysis process, including sample
collection, preparation and testing.

3.0 RESPONSIBILITY:
shall be responsible for the collection of the water sample for analysis
K shall be responsible for reviewing the SOP
K shall be responsible for approval of the SOP

4.0 OPERATING PROCEDURES

4.1. Determination of pH
(calibration or measurement)
APPARATUS
Sensor module
Beaker 100ml
Tissue paper
pH meter

PROCEDURE
Fill the sample in a container
Wash the sensor module with the water and wipe with tissue
Put the sensor module in the sample
Wait till the pH is stabilized and read result
2. Determination of Conductivity
Applied Method: Measured by electric conductivity meter
IV. APPARATUS
Beaker 100ml
Tissue paper
Conductivity meter (Salinity meter)
PROCEDURE
Fill the sample in a container
Wash the sensor module with the water and wipe with tissue
Put the sensor module in the sample
Wait the conductivity is stabilized and read result

Determination of total suspended solids (TSS)

Applied Method: Measured
IV. APPARATUS
Water(1 Litre)
Filter paper ( glass-fiber filter)
Mass balance
Drying oven
PROCEDURE
Measure 1litre volume of water
Weigh the filter paper (specified pore size)
Pour the measured water through the weighed filter paper
Wash the filter paper and sample with deionized water after filtering the sample to wash the dissolved
substances.
Dry the filter paper in a drying oven for.......to remove all the water on the filter paper
Weigh again the dried filter paper
>the weight gain is a dry weight measure of the particulates present in the water sample
