ACTIVITY 1.2

Have you ever experienced a life-threatening situation? Or did you have a troubling argument with others
because of misunderstandings? How were you able to deal or escape from those threats and/or
dangers? How did you defend yourself or your loved ones? If it’s not too much, share your experience!
Answer in 5-10 sentences only.

I never experienced a life-threatening situation before. But I do troubling argument with someone if we have
misunderstanding. One time me and my friend have a disagreement about politics. I didn’t agree with her
opinion about politics. She said why some people are so loud on Twitter about politics. She also added that
people who voice out their opinion about how bad our government is doing for clout. I was shocked about her
opinion because I also voice out about how incompetent our government is. She also added that those people
who cannot have food in their home is their fault for being poor. I was disappointed about how she describes
those people.so I disagree with her and try to educate her calmly. She was so angry at me because she said I’m
those people who are just talking about politics. I tried to calm as much as possible while she was hysterically
shouting at me. I just let her voice her opinion and try to understand her because she is still not aware and
educated about those things. When she’s done talking I calmly ask her, "What if you’re in their shoes? aren't
you doing the same?". I explain to her that those who use their voice for people who cannot use their voice. I
also tell her how insensitive her opinion is. She didn’t listen to me, and still, stood by what she believed. I let
her go and let the tension go before I talk to her again. I decided to talk things out once she calms down. I
didn’t get mad at her because of her opinion, instead, I educated her and explained things. I think I handle the
situation calmly because she is still my best friend. And I want her to be aware of those things.
Study Guide Questions:

1. What makes a person vulnerable to threats?

Threats will have a big impact on a person. Because of a threat, their whole personality will change. They can’t
think straight or function well because they are bothered. they will overthink so it will also affect their mental
stability and peace of mind. For example, a person who was threatened will do everything. Like, they will beg,
or at worst kneel while begging to stop the threat they are experiencing. For a moment, they will forget their
dignity. That makes a person vulnerable.

2. What are some preventative measures against common threats?

When you respond to a threat improperly, you're increasing the chances that the person or group who made
the threat will really carry it out. Take the threats seriously and assess them swiftly to see if police action is
needed. Keep an eye on what's going on around you.

3. How to react properly when confronted by someone?

In my opinion, when being confronted by someone you need to be calm as much as possible to avoid tension
between two parties. When being confronted, be calm and try to be considerate and listen first before
speaking up to avoid conflict. Avoid shouting or getting fed up while being confronted by someone because
that was unnecessary. Take a deep breath, listen carefully and after that, you can voice out your opinion

4. What makes a self-defense act acceptable to the law?

In criminal law, self-defense justifies inflicting substantial harm on another person on the basis that the harm
was inflicted to protect oneself. In general, killing is not a crime if the killer reasonably believes he is in
imminent danger of losing his life or suffering serious bodily injury from an assailant, and that killing the
assailant is necessary to avoid the danger.
