“Hot Seat” game. Are you all ready?

 That’s good to hear! Now, I need someone  Yes, Ma’am!

who will sit here in front of the projector or
TV. He or she will be the one to guess the
words and images that will be flashed on the
screen. And the rest of the class will give
him or her some clues related to the words
and images. Do you understand, class?

 For you to understand more about the game,  Yes, Ma’am! We like that game!

 Very good! You have three words and  Yes, Ma’am!

images to guess in this game. To be fair to
all, I will pick one card first where your
names are written. The name that I will be
picking is the student who will sit here in
front and guess the image and word that are
flashed on the screen. And then, after
guessing the word, he or she will pick
another name who will guess the next word
and image. This will be repeated for the next
player. Is that clear, class?

 Are there any questions?  No, Ma’am!

 Then, let’s start.

 (Pick a name in a bowl of cards.) Our first  Yes, Ma’am!

player is -----. Kindly proceed here in front
and sit on the chair. Are you ready?

 Okay. The rest of the class, kindly minimize

the tone of your voice and avoid creating
unnecessary noises. You can describe the
color, texture, shape, and other features that
the image is showing. Do not give a hint that
is very close to the answer.

 So, here is the first image. Describe it in

Thank you for your participation. Please take
your seats and let us now start our
discussion.

C. Establishing a Purpose for the Lesson

1. The activity that we did a while ago is related to

our lesson for today, which is about visual arts
during the Philippine pre-colonial period.
Specifically, in the Bicol Region. We will be
focusing on discussing the pottery in the Bicol
Region, which is located in Tiwi, Albay.

2. Now, have you ever touched a clay pot where  Yes, Ma’am! My mother really loves pots.
plants are placed?

3. Yes, that’s right. Most of our mothers really love

this thing.

4. What is usually the color of a pot?  Brown

5. Can we make a small image of a pot? If yes, what  A modeling clay

can we use?

6. How can it be possible?  A person will use his/her hands in molding

the clay.

D. Presenting Examples/ Instances of New Lesson

7. I will be showing you example images of people  People are working manually to mold the
making pots inside a factory. Tell me your clay into a pot.
observations in these images about the pottery-  They are using an equipment where clay are
making process. placed on top.

8. Are the pots the same in terms of their size, color,  They are most likely the same in color but
and shapes? not in size and shapes.

9. Aside from the plain color, do you think you can  Yes ma’am.
put on some designs on the pot out of your
creativity?

10. In order for you to make a design, what  Paintbrush

materials are you going to use?  Carving materials
 Coloring materials
11. Yes, that’s correct.

12. Let’s say, for instance, that you are tasked with  Curve
making a clay pot and putting some images on your  Zig-zag
artwork. Can you give me the patterns that we can  Straight line
apply or that we can draw to design a pot? Give me  Circle
some types of lines or shapes.  Triangle

13. Okay. Very good! You can simply apply simple

patterns to your artwork. And these patterns will
surely make it more colorful and attractive.

E. Discussing New Concepts and Practicing New Skill

14. I know that you are already familiar with  Yes, Ma’am.
pottery. But most of you may not know its historical
background, right?

15. So, to broaden or deepen your knowledge about

pottery, I’ll give you a summary of its history,
where it began, and who influenced the Filipinos to
build businesses based on this artistic style.
16. Tiwi, Albay, is the place in the Bicol Region
where pottery is popular. Pottery in Tiwi, Albay,
Philippines, traces back centuries and is deeply
rooted in the region's cultural heritage. Tiwi's
pottery tradition flourished long before Spanish
colonization. These communities crafted jars and
cooking pots using traditional techniques passed
down through generations. With the arrival of
Spanish colonizers in the 16th century, pottery
production expanded, influenced by European styles
and demands. Today, Tiwi remains renowned for its
vibrant pottery scene, blending traditional methods
with contemporary designs and sustaining its rich
cultural legacy while adapting to modern markets.

17. Do you agree that pottery helps the economy of

the Philippines?  Yes, Ma’am.

18. In what way does it help the economy grow?

 Because of its unique style production.
19. Yes, of course, its unique style of production is  Because of its beautiful deisgn.
one of the reasons why people are still supporting  Because of its quality.
this kind of business.

20. Local businesses like pottery are one of the

reasons why cultural heritage in Bicol is strongly
supported and recognized.

21. I have here an image of pots in a

factory. Observe its designs and patterns.

 The pots have holes depicting its designs.

22. What can you say about the design of the pots?
 The shapes that are present are cicles, hearts,
and stars. And patterns, such as flower, are
made out of these shapes.
23. That’s right! To further explain, we cannot just
only make plain designs in pottery. We can also
show our creativity by adding unique styles on it
such as holes.

24. If you will be designing your own pot, on what

 in the middle
part of the pot will you put bigger shapes and
patterns?
 Top part or bottom part
25. What about the smaller shapes and patterns?
 It can also be applied in the middle

F. Developing Mastery (leads to Formative

Assessment

“A Mold of Disaster”
 Divide the class into two groups. Each group
will mold an image of Mayon Volcano using
modeling clay and a board as its base. They
will make a hole at the center of the volcano
and place a small container inside it. A small
amount of soda drink will be poured inside
the container, and candy or mentol will be
dropped after the finalization of the image.
The students will witness an example of a
volcanic eruption out of their output after
dropping the mentol or candy. The students
should mold the volcano as beautiful as
possible within 10 minutes. The task will be
graded according to the rubrics below:

Creativity - 30%
Skill - 25%
Neatness - 20%
Design - 15%
Timeliness - 10%
-------------------------
TOTAL - 100%

G. Making Generalization and Abstractions about the

Lesson

 How do different materials and techniques

affect the appearance and functionality of
pottery?
 Can you identify any patterns or trends in the
designs of pottery?

H. Evaluating Learning

“Mixed and Match”

 Written below are scrambled words or
concepts that we have discussed earlier in
relation to pottery. Your group will
unscramble the letters of the given words
within the time limit. Each of them will be
given three words to complete the task. The
first group to correctly arrange the letters
will win a prize.

 Scrambled Words to be given:

GROUP 1:
- OTP (POT)
- SEHPAS (SHAPES)
- LINES (NSIEL)

GROUP 2:
- OORLC (COLOR)
- LOMD (MOLD)
- SVAE (VASE)

III. ASSIGNMENT:

Performance Task
 Using an image of a plain vase (to be
provided), create your own designs using
different shapes and colors. You can use any
coloring materials to complete your output.
Submit your output at the next meeting.
 Plain vase image:
