GENERAL TOPIC: History of Western Music

EXAMPLE ACTIVITY: CHARADEventure
OBJECTIVES:
A. Test the two senses (hear and sight).
B. Practice the students’ knowledge in reading notes and using instruments with steady beats.
C. Assess the students’ critical thinking skills.
INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS:
1. Paper Strips
2. Printed Musical Notes
3. Rhythm Sticks
INSTRUCTIONS/MECHANICS:
1. Five students will stand in front of the room.
2. The first student will pick one piece of folded paper where the word(s) are written.
3. He or she will act out or show what is written on the paper by using the paraphernalia or visual aids on the table.
4. Talking is strictly not allowed in this game. He or she will only use his or her body and the things in front of him or her.
5. He or she will first use the papers containing musical notes. He or she will pick the musical notes depending on the
syllables of the word(s) given.
6. Right after, he or she will pick up the rhythm sticks on the table and tap them together depending on the number of words
indicated on the paper.
7. He or she will now act out the word(s) given to provide more accurate and clear hints to the rest of the class, who will
guess the correct answer.
8. Students can shout their guesses or put their hands up before answering.
9. If the rest of the class say “pass” because of difficulties in guessing the specific word, they will now proceed to the next
student who will pick the next word.
10. But if they guessed the word correctly, the next student will act out the next word.
